A teenage girl was allegedly dragged out of her car at a suburban shopping centre carpark on Saturday night by a man who approached her asking for a lift.
The 19-year-old was sitting in her car at the Seaford Central Shopping Centre carpark, south of Adelaide, about 9pm when a man started a brief conversation with her, South Australian police said.
The 20-year-old South Brighton man then allegedly reached into the car and dragged the teen out.
The alleged hijacking sparked Good Samaritans into action, with shoppers pulling the man out of the woman’s car and detaining him until police arrived.
The man was then arrested, and has been charged with aggravated robbery.
Fortunately, the teenager was not physically injured during the incident.
Police thanked the public for their “swift intervention and coming to the young woman’s aid”.
The alleged hijacker was refused police bail and will appear in Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Monday April 14.
