Boys' school grabs win on third day

ST Mary’s College put their science and engineering skills to test to win day three of the Darling Downs Science and Engineering Challenge.

ST MARY'S College students have used their science and engineering skills to win day three of the Darling Downs Science and Engineering Challenge.

Eight schools battled it out to test their knowledge in several science and engineering activities at USQ on Thursday.

St Mary's student Jimmy Sullivan said he was excited to see everyone work together to tackle the challenges.

"We did a lot of planning before we started the building process," he said

"I think the most important component was communication and team work."

About 30 students from more than 30 schools participated in this year's puzzling activities.

Participating schools included The Glennie School, Toowoomba Grammar School, St Saviour's College and Millmerran State High School.

The challenge encouraged students to consider studying engineering,science and maths in their senior schooling.

Competing students Machinery such as bionic hands were made with simple house-hold items by competing students. 

The Darling Downs Science and Engineering champion will be named when the competition concludes on Friday afternoon.
