The hottest tickets in town are being snapped up this week as Townsville’s Queensland Country Bank Stadium gets ready to host ‘the event of the summer’ with The Killers concert, with a blockbuster Cowboys home semi final this weekend.

Tickets for The Killers will go on sale Tuesday for pre-sale after the announcement on Monday morning that the American rockers will kick off their Australian tour in Townsville.

The final release of tickets to Saturday night’s home semi final between the North Queensland Cowboys and the Newcastle Knights also go on sale from 10am Tuesday.

Venue general manager Cameron Jones said there was a large amount of excitement from the community.

“This will be the event of the summer and we couldn’t be more excited,” he said.
“When tickets go on sale this week, we hope North Queensland gets right behind it.”

Chief executive of Frontier Touring Dion Brant said the company was very excited to be bringing The Killers to North Queensland and noted former concerts as the reason for more bands and musical acts coming to Townsville.

“The band has chosen to kick off their Australian tour on a Saturday night in Townsville at Queensland Country Bank Stadium and we are counting on the North Queensland crowd to make it an extra special night,” he said.

“In talking to The Killers about coming to Townsville, we look at the success of P! nk coming here, we look back to 2020 and success of Elton John. The more successful shows we can have here, the easier it is to get artists to come.”

The show is expected to generate a $10 million boost to the Townsville economy, with Townsville Enterprise chief executive Claudia Brumme-Smith saying the show would demonstrate the region’s capability in hosting major concerts and events.

She said The Killers proved a popular choice with the Townsville demographic.

“What we know is that their songs are what our community wants to see,” she said.

“Our average age is 35, they are the perfect band to get us into the summer season.”

With Saturday’s Cowboys vs. Knights elimination final at the stadium set to be a huge occasion, Ms Brumme-Smith said the NRL and The Killers concert announcements solidify Townsville as the events capital of northern Australia.

Ms Brumme-Smith said the concert opened the door to more major acts at the stadium in the future.

“Ultimately if we sell out again, which I think we will, we will get more concerts here. That’s the ultimate game,” she said.

“We need to make sure that we sell this one out as well and then we open ourselves for more opportunities to present ourselves and our case to promoters like Frontier.”

Townsville City Councillor Liam Mooney said he was keen to head along to The Killers show and take a nostalgic trip back down memory lane.

“I just remember back to my teenage years, it was the soundtrack to all those years,” he said.

“I remember playing it on Guitar Hero. To be able to see them on a big stage at our very own stadium, it’s going to be absolutely massive, I’ll be in the mosh pit for sure.”

Ms Brumme-Smith added that this weekend’s Cowboys game would also be a blockbuster event, expecting to inject $8 million to the local economy.

“We absolutely know that when the Cowboys do well, the city is feeling good,” she said.

“People are going to travel. People are excited buying merchandise and memberships as well. “That just doesn’t include Townsville, it is the whole of North Queensland and northern Australia.”

The Killers will take the stage at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Saturday, November 30.

The event is open to all ages, with pre-sales starting this Tuesday and general tickets will go on sale Thursday at 4pm.

The Killers announce Townsville show

American rock legends The Killers are set to launch their highly anticipated Australian tour at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on November 30.

Known for iconic hits like Mr. Brightside and Somebody Told Me, this will be the first time the band has ever played in Townsville, and it’s shaping up to be a massive event.

Twenty years after they came onto the scene with their ARIA #1 debut album Hot Fuss, The Killers have locked in Aussie shows in November and December.

With seven studio albums, the band has cemented themselves as one of the biggest bands of the last two decades, selling more than 28 million records worldwide.

Consisting of frontman Brandon Flowers, guitarist Dave Keuning, bassist Mark Stoermer and drummer Ronnie Vannuci Jr, the band have performed at shows and festival across the globe.

Kicking off their 2024 Australian tour in Townsville, the band will then play shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
The Killers made a splash in Australia when they performed at the 2017 AFL Grand Final, and have recently released a new single ‘Bright Lights’.

This tour will be the first time the band has played in Townsville.

Chief executive officer of Frontier Touring Dion Brant said the company is excited to bring back The Killers to Aussie crowds.

“They always deliver such amazing shows, they really are the quintessential live band,” he said.

“Brandon Flowers, the frontman, is an absolute showman. Their songs are big, singalong anthemic songs.”

On the decision to start the tour in Townsville, Mr Brant said because of Townsville’s regional location, it sometimes is overlooked.

“Townsville sometimes misses out on as much as it deserves,” he said.

“We wanted to kick it off with a bang. It will also be the biggest show on the tour. We know that people drive in from all around North Queensland to come to shows in Townsville.”

“Coming straight from the States, getting into Country Bank Stadium, it’s such a great stadium.”

With 20 years of hits, Mr Brant said the concert will be the ultimate ‘feel-good experience’.

“What makes a Killers show such a great experience is that you will head along and know so many more songs than you think,” he said.

“You will get swept up in the showmanship of such a great rock and roll front man, with the big production, big screens, the big lights, the whole thing.”

“Quite often you walk out of a Killers show and everyone is singing on their way out.”

The concert is part of a string of high-profile acts making Townsville a live music hotspot, following performances by P!nk and Tones and I earlier this year.

P!nk’s Summer Carnival tour drew a record-breaking crowd of 65,000 across two nights at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

Queensland Country Bank Stadium Venue General Manager Cameron Jones shared his excitement about The Killers’ upcoming performance.

“The Killers are responsible for some of the all-time music anthems, and I can’t wait to hear them ringing out across our stadium stands!” he said.

“The response to P!nk earlier this year was phenomenal, and I hope fans and locals react to this concert in a similar way and sell out the venue so that we can continue to attract the best event experiences for Townsville.”

The Killers will take the stage at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Saturday, November 30.

The event is open to all ages, with pre-sales starting this Tuesday and general tickets will go on sale Thursday at 4pm.
