Alice Springs Show 2024 full guide: Giant gnomes, V8’s, dachshunds, woodchopping and more

A celebrity chop off, a dachs-egg race, V8 supercars and much more. Here’s what you can expect from the 2024 Alice Springs Show.

The Alice Springs show is back for 2024 and this is year is promising to be bigger than ever, with crowd favourites returning and some new activities on offer for the first time.

Now in its 65th year, the 2024 edition of the show has seen nearly a 100 volunteers working tirelessly to make sure the two-day event runs smoothly.

Central Australian Show Society president Andrew Barrett said they were expecting about 20,000 punters through the door – and they’ve planned some special surprises for those who come along.

One of those surprises is the “local Alice personalities” who’ll be taking part in this year’s celebrity chop off, and another is the new dachshund category.

The dachshund category has its own subcategories, which will see the longest dachshund crowned, the angriest dachshund awarded, and the “dachs-egg” category – which is an egg and spoon race – featuring dachshunds.

“We have our official grand opening at 2.30 on Friday ... and then we have our grand parade, and that involves vehicles that are a part of the show, cattle, horses, dachshunds,” Mr Barrett said.

“I do want to remind people that the easiest way to get show is enter the show via Ilparpa Rd.”

Door for the show open at 9am Friday, July 5. The show runs until 8pm on Saturday July 6, with a fireworks ceremony to close the event.

Tickets are $25 at the door for adults and $15 for children aged five to 15 and seniors.
