Alice Springs crime: Three charged after separate alleged drug busts at hotel, airport

Police pounced on an Alice Springs hotel and the airport - in separate searches - allegedly finding large amounts of meth and ketamine. FIND OUT WHO WAS CHARGED.

Two men and one woman have been charged after police seized “significant” amounts of methamphetamine, ketamine and cannabis from an Alice Springs hotel and airport.

On the morning of May 21, detectives from the Southern Drug Investigation Unit carried out a drug raid at a hotel in the town.

They allege they found a commercial quantity of ketamine and smaller amounts of methamphetamine and cannabis.

A 47-year-old woman was arrested and charged with:
> Supply schedule 1 (ketamine) - commercial quantity

> Supply schedule 1 (methamphetamine) - less than commercial quantity

> Possess schedule 1 (ketamine) - commercial quantity

> Possess schedule 2 (cannabis) - less than trafficklable

She was remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court on Thursday.

In the afternoon, in a separate incident, detectives say they searched Alice Springs Airport and seized several packages containing significant amounts of methamphetamine.

Two men, a 44-year-old and 51-year-old, were arrested and charged with possessing and supplying commercial quantities of methamphetamine.

The two men were also set to appear in Alice Springs Local Court today.

Detective Acting Superintendent, Deanne Ward, said the alleged supply of drugs in regional townships and communities had the potential to wreak “devastating impacts on people’s lives and social cohesion”.
