7NEWS Brisbane anchor Sarah Greenhalgh has welcomed her first child, a baby boy named Jack Bentley.

The 34-year-old newsreader, who signed off on maternity leave just two and a half weeks ago, shared the news on Tuesday morning, describing her son’s birth as a moment of “prime time” perfection.

“Our beautiful baby boy is here. Jack Bentley made his grand entrance into this world at precisely 6:00PM, expressing an early appreciation for the importance of prime time,” she wrote, sharing a series of heartwarming photos of the newborn with his proud parents.

“We’re now home settling into life as a family of three after what was a long journey … but the reward couldn’t be any better. We’re so in love with our little man.”

Baby Jack’s arrival at 6pm coincided with the very hour his mother would usually be presenting the evening bulletin alongside Max Futcher.

In a fitting coincidence, Greenhalgh had previously shared that 6pm – “news time” – was when her baby was most active.

“The time of the day the baby moves the most is between 6 and 7pm. There have been a few occasions where I’ve had a big thump two seconds before going on to read something,” she told the Courier-Mail said in January.

Greenhalgh and her husband, Billy Bentley, had chosen not to find out their baby’s gender before birth, instead opting for a nursery decorated in neutral tones.

She previously told The Courier-Mail that her sister had affectionately nicknamed the unborn baby “Baby Beige” in reference to the colour scheme.

Greenhalgh took over as 7NEWS Brisbane’s lead anchor in late 2024, replacing Sharyn Ghidella.

She officially stepped away from the news desk on January 31 to begin maternity leave.

While her return date remains undecided, she has said there is “no pressure to rush back.”

“I will take a few months off, and then we will all collaborate and see what suits everyone best, first and foremost, bub,” she said.

Greenhalgh’s journalism career began in Mackay before she moved to Cairns, where she covered major news events and met her now-husband.

The couple married in 2016 in Brisbane.

Now, the experienced journalist and her husband are stepping into their most important role yet – parenthood.
