TRANSFORMATIONS to traffic flow in the Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley regions are one step closer to being complete.

Nexus is nearing the end of the earthworks phase in the remaining 4km section of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

Nexus expects to reach the end of the earthworks phase this month.

A total of six million cubic metres of material has been shifted in this section alone, which experienced delays due to geological issues while constructing an embankment in the area.

The construction team has been working extended hour shifts for the past 11 months to complete the section.

Ongoing activities will continue 24/7 through to project completion, however these works will be intermittent and may not occur every night or extend throughout the night.

This will allow Nexus to complete the TSRC and have it open to traffic later this year.

Activities still to be undertaken include subgrade placement, paving, shotcrete, building concrete barrier, line marking, drainage works, Intelligent Transport System installation and landscaping.

About 24km of the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing from Mort St, Cranley to the Gore Hwy at Athol was opened on 8 December, 2018.

The $1.6 billion project is a 41km heavy vehicle route, jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments.
