Over the last week, the launch of a new ‘designer’ Woolworths shopping bag has caused all kinds of chaos.
Whilst many people love the item, praising its sustainability, stylish look and size, others have said it’s nowhere near worth the $20 price tag.
However, it’s clear that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, with the bags now being sold second hand for upwards of three times the retail price.

The new bags
Woolworths went viral last week after launching their brand new, high-end bag in collaboration with Anya Hindmarch - a luxury accessories brand founded in 1987.
The bag is part of their Universal Bag project, which enables collaborating food retailers from all over the world to customise their own exclusive version of the Universal Bag to match their brand.
Woolworths is the first brand to bring the bag to Australia, following in the footsteps of retailers from the UK to Hong Kong and Japan.
The bag, made from 100% recycled plastic and guaranteed to last at least 10 years, would set shoppers back $20 - a steep price hike from their existing range of reusable bags, retailing for between 25c and $3.
But, given the benefits and the designer label, many shoppers have decided that not only is it worth the $20, they’d spend far more.

Not just $20, but…
Since the release of the new bags, listings have been popping up on eBay for more than three times the original price.
The listings, primarily describing the item as being ‘brand new with tags’ range from just a few dollars mark up, to $60 or more. Some have the bag listed at being closer to double the original price - with an additional $15 for shipping.
At present, the Anya Hindmarch bags are still available to purchase from the Woolworths website directly, and in many stores across the country.
For this reason, the retailer has hit back at resellers for the act.
“We are aware of the unauthorised resale of the Anya Hindmarch Universal Bag,” a Woolworths spokesperson told news.com.au.
“We do not encourage the resale of these items. It is clearly unacceptable and does not meet our expectations, and those of the wider community.”
So, before heading to eBay, do your best to snag a bargain first!
Money, money, money!
This kind of hype isn’t unusual for Woolworths products, with the brand’s Minecraft Cubeez being auctioned off for upwards of $500 just last month.
In particular, it was the ultra rare Minecraft Cubeez 112/150 Gold Helmet Makena that was making waves.
So, if you happen to find any in between your lounge cushions, you might want to consider this route for some quick cash.
