Woman left shocked after discovering 'cheeky' Airbnb detail

"This is so illegal," said one commenter. Or is it genius?!

After a long journey, most travellers look forward to relaxing on a comfortable mattress in a cozy hotel room or rental home.

However, when it was time to get some sleep, one woman was met with a rude surprise when she went to lie down on her Airbnb's "bed."

The fake bed "illusion"

In a since-deleted TikTok clip that racked up 8.7 million views in one day, Kristen Downard revealed that her sister had fallen prey to an Airbnb 'scam'.

"It’s not what it seems," she says in the clip, pulling back the duvet of a plush-looking double bed to reveal there was no bedframe, but instead two folding tables with a mattress on top.

"It’s an illusion," she laughed.

She said that when her sister sent her the photo of the tables under the mattress, her mouth "literally dropped open."

"I know Airbnbs can have some crazy things going on," she added, "but this takes the cake."

"So illegal"

Despite her lighthearted take on the situation, commenters were angry on her sister's behalf.

"That money would have to be back in my account the second I unveiled that blanket," one person wrote.

"I always check for bed bugs but now I have to check for BEDS!!?!?," another moaned.

"This is so illegal," another outraged viewer claimed.

"I can understand for staging a house for sale but for an Airbnb???" one confused user added.

And another joked that the Airbnn was "BYOB" - bring your own bed.

In a follow-up video, Downard said that her sister didn't complain about the house but after seeing the video, Airbnb reached out to her and gave her a full refund.
