"Your wife’s approach is right. Yours is psychotic."

There's nothing that gets Aussies riled up more than debating the correct ratio of bread to Vegemite, and this Reddit debate proves it. 

Taking to the r/Australian thread, a man asked others to weigh in on the topic after he discovered that he and his wife have polar opposite approaches.

He likes his toast covered from "end to end", whereas she barely has a smidgeon hers.

"You're definitely going to taste it"

"This is definitely a critical national issue—how much Vegemite is the right amount?" the man wrote in his post alongside a photo of his toast covered entirely in the thick spread.

Justifying his preference, he explained: "There is no doubt you are covering all your bases and you’re definitely going to taste it. You know you’re getting your vitamin Bs without any doubt."

"On a standard piece of toast, [my wife] uses barely a quarter of a teaspoon and spreads it around and around," he continued.

"Barely any covering and I swear you can see more butter than Vegemite.

"I argue that she isn’t going to taste it, but she argues I have burnt out my taste buds by using too much for years upon years."

"A tad un-Australian"

The man concluded his post by saying: "I love her to pieces, but it seems to me that she’s being just a tad bit un-Australian. It’s a crying tragedy."

Naturally, Aussies went to town in the comments, mirroring the poster's alarming tone.

"I’m fairly certain this breaches the Geneva Conventions," one said, referring to his photo. 

"Straight to jail," another quipped.

"Jesus, your blood pressure must be insane. So. Much. Salt. Your wife’s approach is right. Yours is psychotic," a third Redditor claimed.

But, not everyone was opposed to the man's approach.

"You do you, mate!" a fellow heavy-handed spreader said. "I like a bit less, but I appreciate the effort to cover the surface."

"You are right. I’m happy to see someone who knows how it’s done!" a different commenter replied.

"It actually doesn’t look to bad but it is a lot, you should still be able to see butter in my opinion," someone else declared.

And then a different person went so far as to say: "Your wife is wrong. You should divorce her and marry a real Aussie woman who understands and appreciates the beauty that is Vegemite!"
