Sydneysiders outraged over 'ridiculous' price of Vivid sausage sizzle

"I'd maybe fork out $5 if I were hungry enough, but I would never be that hungry to spend that much for a sausage on a roll."

Vivid Sydney reveals incredible Tekno Train experience

Sydneysiders are up in arms over what many are calling the 'ridiculous' price of a sausage sizzle at this year's Vivid Sydney festival.

The outrage erupted on Reddit, where one user shared the staggering cost of a simple sausage in bread, which didn't even come with "enough onion."

"Can we talk about Vivflation?"

The disgruntled festival-goer pointed out that the real issue of Vivid isn't just the lack of installations or the crowds at the drone show but the sheer audacity of the food pricing.

"So I've seen everyone talking about the crowds, lack of installations, and not being able to see the drone show this year. But can we please talk about the price of a sausage in bread without enough onion on it?" the post read.

The poster then shared a photo of a sign outside a stall at Vivid's Fire Kitchen showing the cost of the humble snag sando - a whopping $8.50.

A 'vegetable sizzle', which is presumably the vegetarian option, was also $8.50.

"I don't care what the reason is, but when you can buy sausages for about $6/kg, onions for $3/kg, and a loaf of bread for $3 (retail, so cheaper buying wholesale bulk for an event like Vivid), $8.50 is disgusting."

"Can we talk about Vivflation?" the poster asked.

"Welcome to Sydney"

Commenters were equally outraged, with one user saying, "I'd maybe fork out $5 if I were hungry enough, but I would never be that hungry at $8.50 for a sausage on a roll. It is sad to say it, but I hope they make a loss and no one buys any, but there will probably be enough stupid people that they make a considerable profit."

"I saw fairy floss going for $18 at Vivid this year! I mean, it was 'glow in the dark' apparently - but still!" another shared.

"I'm shaking my head," someone else claimed.

But others said they weren't surprised.

"Welcome to Sydney. I feel old now saying things like, "Back in my day, Vivid was free," said another.

"It's a captive audience. I don't know what you expected. Also, the event runners charge crazy fees to the vendors," concluded another.

And some people said that they'd pay that amount if the quality justified it.

"Depends. If it's a crappy sausage and a slice of white bread like Bunnings, then I'm with you. But if it's a decent sausage on a decent bun, then it's worth it," one person said.
