'Spot on': Comedian's hilarious take on shopping in Australia goes viral

He absolutely nailed it with JB Hi-Fi and Cotton On!

What shopping is like in Australia right now

Who doesn’t enjoy a visit to the local shopping mall at the weekend for a browse of the latest bargains or trending must-have items?

And it appears Teddy, a comedian who goes by @tedsthetics on Instagram and TikTok, has hit the nail on the head by sharing his experience of exactly what it is like to shop in Australia right now.

The viral clip called 'This is what it’s like shopping in Australia and you can’t change my mind', has been viewed more than eight million times across both Instagram and TikTok.

"Three days or three decades"

And his fans and viewers agree he has nailed it by sharing some of the most relatable experiences we all have at our fave Aussie retailers such as Kmart, ALDI, Bunnings and JB HiFi.

He begins by describing his experiences at Kmart: “Anything from Kmart is gonna last you three days or three decades and no inbetween.”

Then he moves onto Bunnings Warehouse: “The staff either know everything or nothing at all.”

When it comes to describing the typical ALDI experience he says that price isn’t everything.

“Cheaper groceries but at what cost?” Teddy says in front of an image of the popular grocery store “Your mental health with an ALDI induced anxiety attack at checkout!”

"Good luck finding staff"

He then moves onto IGA by commenting on the fact their products are either cheap and therefore out of date or cost twice as much as anywhere else. For Costco he laments the fact that whatever you like in that store - you’ll need to buy at least 20 of them.

With Australia’s big department store David Jones he quips, “If you want to buy something in there, good luck finding staff” and for discount retailer TK Maxx: “No, the store wasn't just robbed, it just always looks like that.”

IKEA, home of the Swedish designed flat-packed furniture is the place to test your relationship and “fast tract break ups” according to Teddy, while JB HiFi is “the one place on earth where you've stolen nothing, and they'll still make you feel like you stole something.”

Lastly, he roasts clothing retailer Cotton On for the lengthy sales routine at the checkout to try and upsell customers while they pay for their purchases.

“‘Would you like a pair of socks? Would you like a bottle of water? Would you like a bag? It is all for charity!’ Brother - I am the one at Cotton On, I am the charity,” he hilariously ends the skit.

"You nailed it 100 percent"

The comments alongside the sketch congratulate Teddy for nailing these highly relatable experiences at our retailers.

“You nailed it 100 percent,” said one user.

“I thought I was the only one feeling like a thug at JB HIFI,” said another.

With a third adding: “the jb hi-fi had me walking out asking myself if I have accidentally slipped a $3000 laptop in my bag. They got me questioning myself!”

Many of the comments focussed on his Kmart observation that products either last three days or three decades,

“I've got a toaster from Kmart, still going strong for approximately 15 years,” said one happy customer.

Another added: “My mum bought a rice cooker from Kmart that lasted us YEARS and then it stopped working. She bought another one also from Kmart and it died three days later mid steam.”

"What about Chemist Warehouse?"

A few commenters felt Teddy left out a couple of other Aussie stores, that maybe he can add into a future comedy skit.

“There should've been one for Chemist Warehouse, where security helps you more than the staff lol,” said one TikTokker.

“And what about Robin's Kitchen, they’ve been running a stocktake sale for a full decade,” wrote another.
