Mum shares the one ALDI product she 'always checks' before purchasing

“Ewwww,” said one shopper and “yuck” said another of the faulty item.

Woman finds disgusting cheese in Aldi

There is nothing worse than finally getting your groceries into the kitchen, only to find that one of the supposed fresh products in your shopping bags, is out of date or worse, covered in mould.

One helpful shopper on the ALDI Mums Facebook group had a straightforward tip for anyone who has fallen into this trap, even filming a recent first hand experience.

While sharing the short clip of the offending product she added this caption:”Always check your sliced cheese before purchasing it. This was yesterday and I handed it into staff who then proceeded to check all these on the shelf.”

"This reminds me to check"

The mum’s video includes a general view of the sliced cheese section and then her hand holding a pack of sliced European Gouda cheese.

The cheese looks fine from the front but when she turns the pack over it is easy to see a large patch of blue and green mould. And this is not the type of cheese that warrants mould.

The 'best before' date is visible and while the cheese is within the date, something has clearly gone wrong in the processing, packaging or transportation phase.

The mum’s helpful share was mostly welcomed by other Aldi shoppers who frequent the page for advice and product recommendations.

“ I appreciate them [posts like this],” one Facebooker commented below the clip.

“Reminds me to check (I normally grab and toss in the basket!). It’s also nice reading that the employee took it upon themselves to check the rest!”

"Not always quality controlled"

Another unhappy customer added: “Ewww, it might be cheap but not always quality controlled.”

“Yeah, I always check cold products from Aldi: Last time the Brie cheese was a month out of date [so] luckily I checked,” added a third.

Many of the people leaving comments were quick to jump to Aldi’s defence, saying this problem can occur at any of the big retailers.

"The kids opened them!"

“I have purchased more off and mouldy products from Woolworths and Coles than I ever have from Aldi,” said one.

Others had similar experiences of mouldy or faulty dairy products to share.

“Our cheese and biscuit crackers (the four pack, snack size) were the same,” one mum wrote under the post.

“Sadly sent to school without seeing it until the kids opened them!”

"This can and does happen in all supermarkets from time to time"

Another user added a scary dairy experience that could have ended in a visit to the emergency department.

“This can and does happen in all supermarkets from time to time,” she explained..

“I was eating a yoghurt from Coles and found a big chunk of glass in it. I tried ringing the supermarket a few times over a couple of days [with] no answer.”
