Shoppers outraged over eye-watering cost of 1kg block of cheese

"As a cheese LOVER this is catastrophic!" one group member said, while others joked they'd need to "take out a second mortgage."

Easy budget hacks to save your family $$$

Nowadays, we're less shocked when we see the price of common household essentials like milk and butter completely skyrocket.

We'll huff and puff and mutter under our breath in the dairy section as we remember how much we used to pay for these common things.

However, we've more or less come to accept that the cost of living is here to stay and make itself at home (and overstay its welcome by A LOT.)

That being said, a recent post has sent shockwaves through a budget-conscious Facebook group, for showing the eye-watering amount a supermarket is charging for a block of cheese.

Brace yourselves...

"I didn't know whether to laugh or cry"

The mum took to the Mums on a Budget Facebook group to share a photo of a 1kg block of Bega Cheese with its rather grim price tag...

It was $16.80.

Yep, the 'family value pack' is in fact, not good value... like, at all.

"I didn't know whether to laugh or cry," she captioned the post.

Other group members agreed and took to the comment section to share their outrage.

"It's cheese for God's sake, not gold"

"This is getting ridiculous," one member cried out. "Our farmers deserve to be paid, but holy heck..."

Another chimed in, "I'll need to get a second mortgage to afford this."

"No more toasted sandwiches at my place," lamented another mum.

"As a cheese LOVER this is catastrophic!" remarked a different group member.

"There's literally no reason for cheese to be classed as a luxury item," a fellow member responded. "This is beyond a joke."

"That’s a disgrace, how do families get on with outrageous prices like this?" questioned a mum.

"What the f***ing what!? It’s cheese for God's sake, not gold," exclaimed another.

Calls for boycotts and where to shop instead

Amidst the despair, one person called for "a boycott against the major supermarkets." They added, "This is nothing but corporate greed."

Someone else agreed, and responded, "Not enough people are standing up and saying enough is enough, until then, they will keep raising the prices of everything like they have for years unfortunately. As sad as it is, it has never been about the people who struggle."

"How are they getting away with this?" someone else asked.

Meanwhile, many insisted that, "everyone should just shop at ALDI."

"Anyone on a budget needs to be shopping at ALDI. The cheese is like $11/kilo there," concluded someone else.
