Sad detail has emerged from Robert Irwin and Rorie Buckey's shock split

People are beginning to speculate what happened between the young loved-up couple who were showing all signs of a forever love. 

It was showing all signs of possible marriage but Robert Irwin's relationship with girlfriend Rorie Buckey ended abruptly with a statement saying it was over after one year. 

 

“We wanted to share that we have decided to go our separate ways but profoundly appreciate all of the time spent together and wish one another all the very best into the future,” their joint statement read on social media. 

“We wish to express the gratitude and respect we have for one another as we continue our journey on different paths.”

That was it. It was final. The young Wildlife Warrior and his new recruit were done.

What happened to Robert and Rorie?

After the initial shock of the announcement wore off, fans began asking questions about what had happened to the couple, who were gushing about each other publicly just weeks ago. 

And now, after viewing both Instagram profiles, some are speculating that something nasty has played out behind the scenes. 

Robert and Rorie have both deleted all traces of each other on their pages. What was once filled with sweet and ridiculously happy shots of the couple are now no longer.  

What's more, Rorie, who had just joined the team at Australia Zoo, also removed "Wildlife Warrior" from her bio, disabled comments on her page, and also switched her account from public to private. 

While we don't know any details as to why, all signs show that it has been a rather painful split.

We thought they were going to get married

During their one year together, Robert and Rorie captivated the Aussie public. 

The new co-host of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here was completely head of heels with his new flame, also niece to the late Heath Ledger. 

They enjoyed many international and local trips together, including one recent one to Canada with Rorie's family. 

Rorie was also completely accepted into the Irwin family, with Bindi often sharing her own sweet thoughts on her younger brother's girlfriend and appearing in many family snaps - including one from the Steve Irwin Gala.

Many were convinced the new big announcement from the young couple would be an engagement after Robert's sweet New Year's post: “R + R. Thanks for making my 2023 so bright. To many years ahead."

We guess it just wasn't meant to be.
