Rogue way contestants have ruined this season of MAFS

This season of MAFS has plenty to love (and to hate). But, it's the contestants' words off-screen that are stopping people from watching.

"They're all bogans!" - Lauren's MAFS moments sparks drama

This season of MAFS is definitely one for the books.

We’ve got people to love, couples to root for, and a few villains of course (some far worse than others).

Now, in the second half of the experiment, viewers should be knee-deep in the series, holding on to every word and wondering who will and won’t make it to the end - and who’s still together now.

But, despite the show’s best efforts, it feels hollow - and it’s all because of the contestants.

Reality TV in the social media era

Normally, when it comes to reality TV, viewers are able to fully envelop themselves in the show without knowing what comes next.

And, a key part of this in the social media era is that none of the contestants can post on their accounts in real time, and are instead unable to access them at all, or are made to hand them over to producers or family members who post for them.

Sure, they might do a tell-all on a podcast after the fact, but while the season is airing, it keeps the mystery alive.

This season of MAFS is a little different.

At the very beginning of this season of MAFS, viewers quickly realised that not all of the contestants handed over their Instagram accounts.

In particular, Tim had his account on private (and then deleted it altogether, for obvious reasons), and so did Lauren - and the official MAFS account didn’t follow either of them.

Sure, this looked a little suspicious, but we never could have predicted what would happen next.

Contestants gone wild

For the most part, the social media content coming from the MAFS cast has been pretty tame. Picture-perfect images and sweet videos from the couples topped off with the MAFS logo in the corner - check, check and check.

But, some questionable behaviour from a few people has left a sour taste in the mouths of viewers.

Firstly, Adrian. One of the most controversial figures from this season, and for good reason.

Generally, the season’s villains would simply wait until the end of the season to share their side of the story and blame their portrayal on whatever they can - usually the dreaded ‘edit’.

Adrian’s decided to take a bit of a different approach, using a joint account with his twin brother to share controversial takes on events live as they happen.

Over the course of the season so far, Adrian has posted videos on the account slamming all sides of the story. On February 8, he posted a video sharing that one of his ‘icks’ was women with names beginning with the letter A - just like his on-screen wife Awhina. Then, just a few days later, and while the two were facing problems on the show, he posted another video giving flowers to Awhina on Valentine’s Day.

Most recently, clips shared have been around his Nandos comment (yes, the 'nice dinner' he took his wife to) - with one comment exposing the fact that groom Eliot was also in attendance.

Whilst this is chaotic, it’s the spoilers from other contestants which have been much worse.

Jacqui has, for a long time, been one of the most explosive MAFS contestants as far as social media goes. Some even believe that her TikTok and Instagram accounts, @jacquelineleejewellery, are fake - created solely for the purpose of exposing her MAFS journey without breaking any contracts.

In the last week alone, Jacqui has debunked multiple different storylines from the show.

And, as entertaining as that may be to an extent, it’s also the exact reason why it’s so hard to stick to this season.

Spoiler alert!

In last night’s episode, we saw a huge blow up between Ryan and Jacqui, and honestly, what’s new? This time, it was about his… strange preferences when it comes to intimacy.

On the flip side, we also saw a rift grow between Lauren and Clint, over her desires for an ‘alpha male’, which, due to his ability to wash dishes, he clearly could never be.

These arguments and the fall out of each took up the entirety of the episode - and it looks like it will flow into tonight’s episode as well. But, it’s impossible to have any sort of stake in it, because we already know how it ends.

For a long time, it’s been thought that Jacqui and Clint end up together. And this week, once again, Jacqui posted a photo in his house. In his house!! If that's not confirmation, I don't know what is.

But, let's be real, it's not just Jacqui and Adrian letting spoilers loose. Lately, Ryan has been going rogue too. And Morena? She was going rogue all season.

I understand the want for contestants to speak their minds, and to have the ability to tell the truth and defend themselves. However, the flip side of it is that when it comes to MAFS, or any other type of reality TV show, you have to understand what you signed up for.

From a viewer’s perspective, please wait until afterwards to expose the show. I’ll listen then, I promise!
