The Ned Kitty Cattery opens doors near Geham

A new cattery has opened outside Toowoomba, offering personalised care for people on a budget.

Jennifer McPhie launched the Ned Kitty Cattery in Mt Luke last year, drawing on her prior experience of managing a vet clinic in Brisbane.

“We have our own animals, and a lot of places were very expensive to board your pets,” Ms McPhie said.

“I just thought, maybe I can make a small business to help people out, especially those who can’t afford really expensive fees, while allowing me to be at home more.”

Ms McPhie said the business started out small with room to grow.

Currently, she has space for eight cats and three dogs.

“As I say on Facebook, it’s small by design not by chance,” she said.

“Eventually I will have room for 10 dogs and 20 cats.

“I keep prices low – if someone books in their cat for longer than 10 days with me the price gets reduced.”

Ms McPhie, who started work on the cattery in April last year, said she was focused on supporting the local community.

“I make sure everything I buy is from local vendors based in places like Crows Nest, Highfields and Geham – even the food I get for the animals is sourced locally,” she said.
