Crawling through mud, jumping over obstacles and splashing through water is the stuff of dreams for dogs, great and small.

With recent rain ensuring there was no shortage of mud and puddles, pooches of all shapes and sizes were in their element at the Toowoomba Showground for the K9 Ruff Mudder.

Held over a 5km course with 30 obstacles and challenges, dogs and their owners were put through their paces.

For Ashlea Lynch and her labrador pup Flynn, getting dirty was all part of the fun.

“It’s a good way to bond with your dog as well as a good way to get a bit of exercise,” she said.

“We do a lot of things for our dogs, so to see how much they enjoy it, that’s what makes it worthwhile.”

Event organiser and Events4All owner Phillip Reuben said the first K9 Ruff Mudder was held in Toowoomba in 2018, and he was glad to have made the trip down from Cairns to bring the event back for dog lovers of the Garden City.

“We’ve been doing the Kryptonite challenge which is like a military obstacle course, and I thought it’d be great if I could go around the course with my boxers because they would love it,” he said.

“It’s a lot of fun and the obstacles are designed for any age, and any dog.”

This weekend’s event was the fourth Ruff Mudder, and Mr Reuben said he hoped to return again with the event next year.
