A tattooed dad, known on TikTok as “Workingdad,” has gone viral after hilariously documenting his experience navigating a modern children’s playground.
Scaling the heights of the outdoor structure, he provides a running commentary of his experience with a mix of fear and disbelief.
“This is a kid’s park. I’m like 10 maybe 12 feet up in the air with no safety thing,” he exclaims. “There’s just a bit of sand if I fall. OMG. I mean I love it, but Jesus Christ this is dangerous.”
He captures his every nervous step and near-miss as he navigates the treacherous web of ropes, ladders, and tunnels.
“Who designed this thing? Someone who hates kids designed this.”
He even describes the experience as “suicide” at one point, clinging to the wooden structure for dear life.
The video has sparked a wave of nostalgia, with many commenters mocking the dad for his ‘dramatic’ reaction.
“That was our playgrounds in the 80s,” one user writes.
“Welcome to my childhood. 80s kids playground. Toughen up, the kids will be fine,” another commenter chimes in, while others point out the developmental benefits of risky play.
“Google studies on this,” one commenter advises. “Scandinavian and some other European countries are build more of this. It’s vital for risk taking in children that helps brain development.”
However, not everyone agrees. Some viewers share the dad’s concerns, with one user calling the playground “ridiculously dangerous.”
Another expresses worry about the potential for injuries, especially with “loads of kids playing and pushing past each other.”
Workingdad himself engaged in some playful banter with those who criticised his fear.
When one commenter suggests he’s “part of what’s wrong with the world these days,” he retorts, “They can learn by falling off a 2ft drop before they start climbing 12ft drops.”
