The unique new gender reveal trend

An Instagram post by @spotlightbaby4d (based in California) shows a loved-up couple having their baby's gender revealed by an ultrasound technician right in their living room.

The clip shows the excitement unfolding as the expecting mum lies on a portable bed with a group of close friends and family gathered around.

The tension builds as the sonographer makes the big announcement—it's a girl!

Cue the celebratory shower of pink confetti and the look of pure joy on dad's face.

"So unique"

In the comments, people couldn't get enough of this cute idea.

One person said: "Omg, this is so unique. Congrats!"

Another chimed in with: "I think this would be good for something very intimate and for close family and friends."

"You’d have to be very, very confident that the ultrasound will have a good outcome to do it in front of everyone," someone else wrote.

The company that posted the video, Spotlight Baby, was founded by two mums and is leading the charge in the US for this sort of service.

And while the idea might be yet to take off in a big way down under, it seems that a few expectant Aussies are getting on board, and a few businesses are cropping up all over the country.

My First Baby Pictures is offering similar mobile ultrasound services, allowing you to cuddle up on the couch and share those precious first moments with bub with loved ones by your side.

So, how does it work?

Well, according to their website, "When it’s time for your appointment, one of our friendly team will visit you at your chosen location. We provide all necessary equipment for a professional, high quality 3D baby ultrasound.

"During the scan, you will be lying on our portable scanning bed. You and any guests can watch the live projection of all of the scanning in real time. You will get to see 2D images and video as well as 3D and 4D images and video.

"Throughout the scan, we save images and videos to our state-of-the-art ultrasound machine to review at the end of the exam. Depending on the package you choose, you will have the choice of which images and videos you would like to keep."
