My husband called my new comfy slippers 'you've let yourself go slippers'

"Clearly he finds them very unsexy," the poor woman wrote despondently. Do you own a pair like the ones she bought?

Grandparents still in love after 60+ years!

A husband this week has made the mistake of being way too honest with his wife about her fashion choices.

To be more specific: about the new slippers she's bought herself (because it's getting cold in London).

Although he was apparently just teasing her, he made a typical husband-joke... and his wife has not seen the funny side.

So, of course, she's asked the internet: a) is his comment funny and b) are my slippers fugly?

"What are people's thoughts on slippers?"

Writing in an online parenting group, the woman said:

"I bought some new slippers recently - nice sheepskin ones from John Lewis (a major store) which I thought looked nice.

"I wore them yesterday evening after a hot bath. My husband looked at them, laughed, and in a semi-joking way said they should be called 'you've let yourself go' slippers.

"Could anyone recommend some comfy slippers that look like they could be shoes, and cover the whole foot (so not ballet pumps)?

"Clearly my husband finds them very unsexy. Would be interested to know people's thoughts on wearing slippers generally."

"He doesn't have his finger on the pulse of slipper fashion"

Comments were very divided in response to the woman's post.

There were those who supported her, but damned the husband, such as:

-"They're just slippers. They're not supposed to be sexy. Your husband is being a dick."

-"If they're comfy I'd rather keep the slippers and chuck the husband."

-"I've always worn 'let yourself go' slippers so my husband has just had to accept it as the norm. I would hate having to look good in my own home though."

-"In no world I've ever lived in has 'slipper' had to equate to 'sexy'. If we've now got to police the appearance of our slippers, I'm going to go and live in a cave somewhere in Tibet."

-"He doesn't have his finger on the pulse of slipper fashion."

-"Posts like this remind me why I stay single!"

"Aunty Mabel vibes"

Then there were who agreed with the husband.

"Slippers aren't meant to be sexy, but those booties are definitely nursing home footwear. Designed not to fall off when the wearer is being hoisted. I’m with your husband, sorry," apologised one.

Another wrote, "I'm kind of with him sorry."

To which this person added, "I was fully prepared to jump to your defence; then I looked at the slippers!"

One tactfully said, "They do have very strong 'Aunty Mabel that lives in the nursing home' vibes!"

And this commenter just couldn't hold back: "Those are truly hideous."
