I'm on welfare and am spending $20k on my kids' Christmas presents

"It's been a hard year but my tween wants a $2.3k bracelet and my two-year-old wants an iPhone."

Mum shares how she's spoiling her kids this Christmas, despite being on benefits

A mum-of-three has defended forking out $20,000 AUD on her kids' Christmas presents, despite receiving welfare payments until early September this year.

Whitney Ainscough claimed that just because "it's been a hard year" doesn't mean her family doesn't deserve to be spoilt with posh presents.

However, some trolls took issue with the 30-year-old spending thousands on presents from the money she saved from welfare payments.

She saved up her $2.2k/month payments for the last year

Ainscough was surviving on welfare payments of around $2.2k per month for much of the past year but has now stopped as she started to make enough as a TikTok influencer.

However, during this time, she still managed to save up some of her payments for her kids' Christmas presents.

She explained to The Sun that Cora, 11, son Addison, six, and second daughter Adley, two, will be receiving at least 10 'big' presents on the day as well as stocking fillers and pre-Christmas gifts.

Ainscough also said, "I am spoiling my kids because they deserve it. My daughter wants a $2.3k solid gold bracelet."

She will also be spoilt with $300 Ugg Boots, designer clothes, a new laptop, perfume, makeup and a nose piercing.

"She’ll also get more acrylic nails and hair extensions for the holidays," she said.

As for her son, "He wants a top-of-the-range $900 VR gaming kit, $330 Nintendo Switch OLED and the latest iPhone and iPad."

And her two-year-old won't be missing out either, with the mum explaining, "I am planning a two-night stay at Peppa Pig World for him and it will be first class all the way," she said. "I’ll probably get him an iPhone too."

"I love my kids and I want them to have the best"

Pre-empting backlash from people about her spending, she said, "I don't care what the trolls think."

She added, "I’m a benefits mum, living in a council house who's spending thousands on her kids for Christmas and I’m proud.

"It’s been a hard year. We deserve posh presents. I told the kids they can have whatever they want."

She also said, "I love my kids and I want them to have the best. To me, that means giving them the presents they want. That might not be every mum’s choice - fair enough. But it is for me."
