Casey Anthony, 'America's most hated mum', wants to 'reintroduce' herself

Many still think she got away with the horrifying murder of her two-year-old, Caylee. Please note: sensitive topics

Casey Anthony speaks nine years after daughter's death

In 2011, Casey Anthony was infamously found not guilty of murdering her two-year-old daughter, Caylee, in a trial that captivated the world’s attention.

Caylee was first reported missing by her grandmother, Cindy Anthony, a month after the toddler was last seen with her mum, in June 2008.

Casey repeatedly lied to police, claiming Caylee was with her babysitter.  But when police tracked the woman down, she’d never heard of the Anthony family.

On the day Caylee was reported missing, police combed through the Anthony family computer and Casey’s phone. These items revealed searches for chloroform, “fool-proof suffocation” [sic], and neck-breaking.

What happened to Caylee Anthony

Throughout the 2011 trial, Casey was dubbed “America’s most hated mum”, after evidence showed she appeared unaffected during the month her daughter was missing.

In that period, Casey was seen on CCTV going to a Blockbuster with her then boyfriend, partying, and getting a tattoo that translated to “beautiful life”.

Casey had also stopped talking to her parents after Caylee disappeared, but eventually admitted to them that she didn’t know where her daughter was.

Her mother, Cindy, called the police soon after and alleged that Casey’s car smelled like a “dead body”.

“I’ve found out that my granddaughter has been taken,” Cindy told emergency services. “There is something wrong… I found my daughter’s car today and it smells like there’s been a dead body in the damn car.”

A day after the report, Casey was arrested for “child neglect, giving false statements and obstruction”; however she denied killing her daughter.

A few months later, Casey was charged with the first-degree murder of Caylee. In December 2008, Caylee’s remains were found in woodlands, close to the Anthony family house. Duct tape was attached to the girl’s jaw.

To this day, police still don’t know how Caylee died, but the prosecution argued it was likely by suffocation.

Casey was found not guilty of murdering Caylee, but sentenced to four years in jail for lying to the police. Just 10 days after her sentencing she walked free, reportedly due to “credits” she had accumulated for time already served.

Since walking free from prison over a decade ago, Casey has largely remained out of the public eye.

Casey Anthony wants to "reintroduce" herself

Now, the 38-year-old wants to change the record and “reintroduce” herself to the world. In a three-minute video posted to TikTok last week, Casey says she’s working as a “legal advocate and researcher”.

“I feel that it is necessary… that I start to advocate for myself and I’ll also advocate for my daughter,” she says from her car.

“As a proponent for the LGBTQ community, for the legal community, women’s rights - I feel that it’s important that I use this platform that was thrust upon me and now look at it as a blessing, as opposed to the curse that it has been since 2008 [when Caylee went missing].”

Casey’s video contains mixed messages, where she initially states she’ll be mainly speaking in a professional capacity, however, doesn’t rule out responding to how her family have spoken about her publicly.

Casey says she is passionate about giving “a voice to people” and providing “tools and resources” relating to legal issues.

She directs people to her Substack, an online newsletter platform, and to email her so they can “correspond directly”.

Since posting, the video has attracted millions of views but Casey has kept the comments turned off. And now, at the time of publication, her accounts seem to have been disabled - most likely due to intense backlash.

People were swift to condemn Casey’s video, with many maintaining she was involved in her daughter’s death.

“...But where was CAYLEE'S VOICE? Did her voice not matter or count? She had a right to LIVE a full life of happiness and enjoy like the rest of the kids,” wrote one viewer.

A YouTuber who recapped the video commented, “This woman does not care about people’s rights and how people feel… she cares about herself. She cares about how she’s seen. She cares about the attention she’s getting.”

And now, with her social media deleted, it seems that done the right thing. Finally.
