‘Budget as f**k’: Influencer claps back at troll over son’s birthday party

“People are doing the best they can and a lavish party for a one year old doesn’t say anything about the value of that person as a parent."

When it comes to kids’ parties, the biggest thing inflated isn’t the jumping castle. It’s the cost.

Sydney mum and influencer, Jade Brycki, found that out the hard way.

The first-time mum recently shared a post after celebrating her son Fletcher’s first birthday. A momentous occasion marking his very first lap around the sun.

But as it turns out, every party has a pooper.

“I think it’s ridiculous that people feel the need to comment such vile things on someone’s happy, celebratory family photos,” Jade told Kidspot.

"Some people are bitter and will say and do anything to tear others down"

Someone looked at the smiles. The celebration. The happiness. And then they typed: "budget as f**k."

It was a comment that left Jade confused, irritated and determined to speak up.

Not just for her, but for other parents who potentially felt the attack in that comment deeply.

“People are doing the best they can and a lavish party for a one year old doesn’t say anything about the value of that person as a parent,” she said.

“It also sends a really poor message to other parents who are doing the same thing or have even less capacity to put such things on for their own children.”

Jade believes there’s no need for that kind of hate.

“Some people are bitter and will say and do anything to tear others down and make themselves feel better about their own position in life which they’re generally unhappy with."

“Nobody happy, thriving and successful is spending time on the internet making judgemental comments about other people’s choices, lives and financial ability.”

That the last thing parents need during a cost of living crisis is to feel guilt around their children’s birthday party efforts.

Taking to TikTok, where she has over 508,000 followers, Jade made that message loud and clear.

“Contextually that sentence could not make more sense,” she said in the clip

“When did everyone just start expecting these lavish ridiculous Instagram parties for just like normal everyday people? I’m not a bagillionaire.”

"How good was a kids party at Maccas"

She stressed that the party wasn’t just for Fletcher, who won’t really remember it.

“It’s just for my husband and I really to celebrate the fact that we survived his first year of life and so did he,” she explained.

In the comments, support rolled in.

“Lavish children’s parties aren’t actually for the children are they, let’s be real,” one commenter wrote.

Another brought nostalgia to play: “How good was a kids party at Maccas when you were young though honestly.”

“I actually love that you had a wholesome non lavish first birthday. Some influencers get so carried away to show off, your head is in the right place, much respect for that,” a third praised.

While one person plainly put it: “Bring back birthday parties where the theme is ‘happy birthday.’”

Jade signed off with a sentiment that many financially exhausted parents might secretly cheer for:“I don't know how to put this nicely, but um. Go f**k yourself.”
