Another Melbourne school under fire after list found ranking female classmates

Victoria Police have been informed of the “misogynistic and disrespectful” list created by year 9 boys at a Frankston secondary school. 

Another Melbourne high school has been alerted of a list created by ear 9 boys ranking female students. 

Victoria Police have been alerted of an offensive list created by year 9 boys attending  McClelland College in Frankston. 

This comes shortly after another Melbourne high school expelled two year 11 boys involved in ranking their female classmates.

Year 9 boys created a “misogynistic and disrespectful” list ranking girls

The list, reportedly created by year 9 students at McClelland College, ranked the female students based on their appearance. 

Speaking to The Herald Sun, a Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed they were made aware of the incident on May 10.

“Frankston Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Team (SOCIT) detectives are aware of reports of a matter involving students from a secondary school in Frankston,” she said. 

“Police have engaged with the school to assess the information and ensure students are adequately supported.

“As there have not been any formal complaints at this stage, Investigators are yet to determine future involvement.”

A spokesperson for the Department of Education said the “misogynistic and disrespectful” actions were “entirely unacceptable in any Victorian school”, and the high school has “rightly taken swift action.”

More than 1,950 Victorian public, Catholic and private schools take part in the Respectful Relationships initiative, launched by the Victorian government to “support them to embed respect and gender equality across their entire school community and stamp out these vile attitudes to women.”

“We all have a responsibility to teach students respect – and we’ll continue to invest in programs that promote gender equality to embed those attitudes,” said the spokesperson. 

“We are grateful to the students who immediately brought the matter to the attention of the school.”

Year 11 students expelled over "offensive" tier list

This comes as two year 11 boys were expelled for their involvement in ranking their female classmates. 

Last week, a handful of male year 11 students from the prestigious Yarra Valley Grammar School in Melbourne were accused of releasing a sexist and misogynist list of female classmates.

Thirty girls were photographed and ranked on a tier list from top to bottom, using highly offensive and inappropriate language to describe the female students. 

The tiers' names included “wifeys,” “cuties,” “mid,” “object,” “get out,” and “unrapable.” 

What followed was an outpouring of criticism, with Victorian premier Jacinta Allan labelling the list “disgraceful.”

“My thoughts today are with the young women and young men they go to school with who are devastated by this news,” she said. 

“To think they are sitting in a classroom with classmates who hold these views and write them down; this is no joke.”
