'No way!': Little-known Kmart barcode hack stuns shoppers

No more hunting around for that impossible-to-find in-store scanner.

It's a common annoyance while shopping at Kmart: you're trying to figure out the price of an item but can't seem to find it anywhere.

So, you have to go hunting for one of those impossible-to-find in-store scanners, which is time that could be better spent... shopping for things you don't need and making impulse purchases, obviously!

But now, a savvy shopper has shared her game-changing hack to eliminate the middleman (the scanner) and find the price of something on the spot.

The genius barcode scanning tip

Taking to a Facebook fan page, the woman shared the tip for finding the price of a product without the in-store scanner.

"I had a little brain bulb moment today at Kmart," she began the post, which has since gone viral in the 400,000-member group.

"Rather than taking the item to the scanner, you can take a picture of the barcode and scan it from your phone!"

She added: "I must have looked like such an egg in the past, taking massive rugs to scan them."

But she wasn't the only one who didn't know about the hack, as others took to the comments to admit they had "no idea" either.

"Also in Woolies"

"Wow, this is soo cool, trying it out next time," one keen member said.

"No wayyy, this will make things so much easier," a different woman revealed.

"I did this once when I wanted to buy a shirt, but the only one left in my size had no tag. Worked a treat!" someone else wrote, confirming the hack works.

Then this person added: "I’ve been doing this for years. It’s genius. Also, in Woolies, if you have the app, you can use that to find prices, too."

While some people were amazed by the hack, other shoppers said you could take it a step further and download the Kmart scanner directly onto your phone via the app.

"You could download the Kmart app, which has scanning ability.  Just scan it from your phone," suggested one.
