The viral toastie maker

The gadget quietly landed on shelves a few weeks ago, and an eagle-eyed Kmart fan snapped a photo of it and posted it in a group where it quickly went viral.

"The Kmart microwave toastie maker," an admin of the Kmart Mums group wrote on June 26th. She then shared a photo of the tool, which comes in blue, pink, green and black and is designed to make crispy toasted sandwiches in minutes in your microwave.

In the comments, budget foodies raved about the invention and shared why it would be such a game changer for them.

"So good for a quick snack!" one wrote. "Or a late-night craving!" replied another.

"This is perfect because our kitchen has no room for a sandwich press!" chimed in a third.

And a fourth pointed out, "My kids will love this, and it's MUCH quicker to clean than a sandwich press and much easier to make than in a pan."

"As a coeliac, it's not easy to enjoy a toastie at work. This might be a game changer to avoid cross-contamination," a different person wrote.

The only downside appears to be that it's selling out fast, with some commenters pointing out that their local stores don't have any stock left.

"It says just landed and then sold out already," one disappointed fan said.

"I’ve wanted one of these for yeaarrrssss. Yayyyy!!!" someone else wrote, perhaps referencing other similar products like the Morphy Richards Mico Toastie, $50.

"It's so good!"

Some lucky enough to get their hands on one have taken to TikTok to review it and share their results.

Lifestyle blogger Dedicated Lifestyle showed her followers how she used it to make a simple ham and cheese toastie, buttering the outside of both pieces of bread. She then assembles her sandwich as usual inside the bottom part of the toastie maker, then places the top piece of bread on top. She then puts the other part of the toastie maker on top, and clips the two sides together.

She microwaves it for a couple of minutes until she hears it sizzling and then pulls it out to see how it's looking.

"WOAH!" she exclaims after seeing the deep grill marks on the toastie. She then opens it up and is shocked to see how melted the cheese is.

After zapping it for another minute so it's extra crispy on the outside, she gives it a taste and declares: "It's so good!"

Another TikToker, mum Helen James, also shared her attempt at making a toastie for her daughter.

And hers passed the melted cheese test, too!

"A winner for a three-minute tasty sanga," she said, before adding a warning that "it heats the microwave safe plates up to 200 degrees, so is best used under supervision if you're a kid."

Commenters on TikTok also couldn't get enough of the device.

"I was fully expecting the bread to be soggy! Very impressive," wrote one.

"I neeeeeeed one of these," said another.

Then someone else suggested: "Wait this would be so good to heat up leftover slices of pizza!"

Honestly, if we werent' sold already, that last comment convinced us!
