An “elusive” McDonald’s collector’s item that’s available in 30 countries around the world is finally coming Down Under.

From this Wednesday, for a limited-time only, customers who purchase any large Quarter Pounder meal will also receive one of the fast food giant’s Collector’s Edition Glasses.

With six to collect, each glass is embossed with a design “to inspire customers to relive those special moments and create nostalgic joy for a new generation”.

The designs “put a fresh spin on classic collectables from McDonald’s”, such as the 1976 Grimace Mug and 1999 Pet Lovin’ Barbie.

McDonald’s Australia marketing director Amanda Nakad said the glasses are “as iconic as they come”.

“From toys to vintage posters, plates, glasses, merch, games and trading cards, these keepsakes are more than just collector’s items – they unlock some of our fans’ favourite McDonald’s memories,” Ms Nakad said.

“The new collectable glasses commemorate some of our most unforgettable designs and global collaborations over the years, allowing longtime fans to relive treasured moments while helping a new generation make their own lasting memories.

“There’s an undeniable thrill when you snag that one elusive McDonald’s collectable or the final piece to complete your collection.”

The glasses will be available at McDonald’s in Australia from this Wednesday, August 14 until Tuesday, September 3, while stocks last, as well as via the MyMacca’s app and McDelivery.

It’s not the first time the fast food giant has released glassware: in 2021, it baffled diners with a range of no-spill cups to celebrate its birthday.

The glasses had a curved section on the bottom, meaning they wobbled or tilted to an angle rather than sat flat – with customers declaring at the time they were freaked out by the design.

“So has anyone got the new Macca’s cup yet? That doesn’t sit,” TikTok user @nunya343 said in a video.

“I don’t get it. I’m a bit p*ssed off as I wanted to use it as a plant holder.”
