Frenzy over Macca’s item that’s drive-through only

The limited edition item costs $20 and has already triggered a mass rush from customers who are snapping them up.

Frenzy over $20 Macca’s drive-through item

One of the most memorable parts of going to Macca’s as a kid was definitely finding out which toy you got with your McHappy Meal.

Now adults are flocking to the fast food chain to get their hands on a limited edition toy that will set you back $20.

This week McDonald’s launched a Ronald McDonald Funko Pop! figurine, with the glitter-encrusted toy available at McDonald’s drive-through while stocks last.

The figurine is designed to celebrate Macca’s 50th Aussie anniversary as well as support a good cause, with all profits going towards Ronald McDonald House Charities.

TikTok user @biancaidr was among the first to get their hands on the figurine, posting a video of her buying the toy at a Macca’s drive-through.

“Oh hell yes!” she captioned the video, which has since been viewed more than 268,000 times.

Bianca’s video had hundreds of comments from people saying they couldn’t believe the toy was actually being sold at Macca’s.

“Is this actually real?” one person asked.

“OMG I didn’t know we could buy these,” another said.

Others said they had bought multiple versions of the toy while some lamented it been difficult to get their hands on just one.

“I got four of those yesterday,” one person claimed.

“All my McDonald’s are sold out,” another commenter lamented, while others predicted they would become a collector’s item and sell on “Marketplace for $200”.

TikTok influencer Bridey Drake also filmed the moment she got her hands on one, although supposedly made the mistake of taking it out of its packaging.

“Apparently you’re not supposed to take the out of the box,” she said in the TikTok. “Is that a real thing, or is that just my brother?”

McDonald’s Australia marketing director Amanda Nakad said the company was “excited” to be raising “much-needed funds” for Ronald McDonald House Charities.

“All profits from the sale of our unique Ronald McDonald Funko Pop! will help RMHC continue to care for seriously ill and injured children and their families across Australia,” she said.

“We know Aussies love their Macca’s limited-edition collectibles, so we look forward to introducing the Ronald McDonald Funko Pop! to give customers another way to celebrate and remember our 50th anniversary in Australia.”

Macca’s no spill cups baffles some customers

It’s not the first product Macca’s has brought out to celebrate its birthday. Back in June it launched a range of limited edition no-spill glasses.

The cups were available for free when you purchased a medium or large Mac Family Meal, or to be purchased for $4 a pop.

McDonald’s told news.com.au that they had an “overwhelmingly positive” response to the cups – but they didn’t go down well with every customer because of their design.

The glasses had a curved section on the bottom, meaning they wobbled or tilted to an angle rather than sat flat.

“So has anyone got the new Macca’s cup yet? That doesn’t sit,” TikTok user @nunya343 said in a video that’s been viewed 469,000 times.

“I don’t get it. I’m a bit pissed off as I wanted to use it as a plant holder.”

Others had similar complaints, claiming it freaked them out or they simply didn’t understand the design.

But not everyone agreed with the complaints, with several people pointing out it was described as a “wobbling glass” on the packaging.
