It can cost a fortune to decorate a home, but in the current economy, it’s more expensive than ever.

While buying a few cushions or a nice throw for the couch was once a basic, it is a cost that is now deemed too expensive for many.

Because of this, nifty shoppers have been eagerly comparing budget buys to designer items, sharing any often identical versions they find that are a fraction of the price in bargain lovers groups.

The most recent “dupe” that has consumers in a spin is a white cushion from Kmart which retails for $10.

Billed as a “contemporary” homewares product, the “30cm Boucle Ball Cushion” is round in shape, and has a modern textured finish.

“It looks just like the ‘bubble cushion’ from Trit House,” one shopper noted in a popular Facebook group.

Indeed, the products do look strikingly similar, with both cushions made of a fluffy polyester fabric and featuring stripes that run across it to resemble a basketball.

However, there’s one huge difference between the two: the price.

Trit House sells its large “bubble cushion, which is 33.5cm in size for $140. Its smaller one, which is only 23.5cm, is priced at $90 and is currently sold out.

“They look so similar,” one claimed.

“I know which one I’ll be buying,” another shared.

“They’re identical,” one declared.

Kmart said the cushion, one of a multitude of new boucle pieces added to stores in its new August Living collection, was already proving very popular with consumers.

“The Boucle Ball cushion is inspired by the contemporary trend of bold sculptural shapes becoming integrated into easy to style pieces,” a spokesperson told news.com.au.

“It can be effortlessly styled on sofas, beds, reading nooks, or window seats to add interest and comfort to any Australian home.”

The retailer added that despite being a “trend” the boucle fabric – which has been growing in popularity in recent years – “is here to stay”.

“It has become a core fabrication within homewares as it is highly versatile and effortless to include in any space.

“Kmart customers love boucle pieces for their timeless texture and comfort, adding a cozy feel to any space.

“The stylish and contemporary appearance of boucle fabric fits well with various interior styles, allowing our customers to mix and match these products in their homes seamlessly.

“We’re sure boucle will remain popular among our customers.”

“It can be styled in a living room as a statement piece, in a bedroom as a reading nook, or in a home office for added elegance.”

It’s not the only new Kmart item that shoppers are raving about, with the retailer recently causing a stir with its $15 Anko Microwave Toastie Maker, prompting the Australian brand to declare it the item of the season.

“It goes in the microwave for three minutes, I think half way through you have to flip it over to ensure its crispness,” Kmart’s Divisional Merchandise Manager Meryn Serong told news.com.au recently.

“We often talk about the power of one item and how much joy that can bring to our customers, this item is definitely the one of the season,” Ms Serong said.

Shoppers went nuts when the gadget, which makes “crispy” toasties in just minutes”, appeared on shelves – with some describing it as a “game-changer”.

“My kids will love this, and it’s MUCH quicker to clean than a sandwich press and much easier to make than in a pan,” one declared online.

“So good for a quick snack,” another mused.

While a third said: “This is perfect because our kitchen has no room for a sandwich press.”
