“Guys, look what I found, I died when I saw these,” another said in a separate clip, showing the product on shelves in their local store.

But Kmart has identified its Anko Microwave Toastie Maker, also $15, as the item of the season after its sales soared following its viral success on social media.

“It goes in the microwave for three minutes, I think half way through you have to flip it over to ensure its crispness,” Kmart’s Divisional Merchandise Manager Meryn Serong said.

“We often talk about the power of one item and how much joy that can bring to our customers, this item is definitely the one of the season,” Ms Serong said.

Shoppers went nuts when the gadget, which makes “crispy” toasties in just minutes”, appeared on shelves – with some describing it as a “game-changer”.

“My kids will love this, and it’s MUCH quicker to clean than a sandwich press and much easier to make than in a pan,” one declared online.

“So good for a quick snack,” another mused.

While a third saod: “This is perfect because our kitchen has no room for a sandwich press.”

The popular item is one of an array of new launches in Kmart’s homewares section, including a huge increase in affordable furniture.

“Our amazing team of buyers and designers were challenged to bring a high level of newness to our customers,” Ms Serong said.

“We needed to lift and elevate not only the mix but also the boldness of what we pull together.

“For this range, we’ve got a collection that works really well with pieces customers have from past seasons in their homes, you can buy just a couple of items and it will change the look at feel of your living space without breaking the bank.”

Ms Serong said she was “most excited” about the furniture, stating items such as side tables and chairs had been made “so affordable” so Aussies could access them.

“We’re not famous for furniture, because we’re so focused on lowest price, but this season we’ve bought to market products that will last and have a huge price difference to competitors.

“They’re also functional and beautiful.”

The new range also features new dining, bedding and storage options.
