Friends cast-mate to adopt Matthew Perry’s beloved dog Alfred

The 54-year-old actor and the doodle mix have been inseparable since 2021 when Matthew adopted the pooch.  

Matthew Perry’s passing over the weekend left family, friends and generations of fans bereft, but perhaps feeling just as lost without his old friend was Matthew’s dog, Alfred.

Reports from The Daily Mail suggest Matthew’s Friends co-star Lisa Kudrow will step in to adopt the orphaned pooch.

“Lisa and the cast will be attending his services,” a source told the publication.

“Lisa is also considering taking in his beloved dog Alfred.”

In 2021, Matthew adopted Alfred, a doodle mix, and the cute pup often featured on the star’s Instagram.

It’s fitting that Lisa should adopt her friend’s dog as the pair were incredibly close, with Lisa writing the foreword to Matthew's memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing.

Lisa Kudrow writes foreword to Matthew Perry's memoir

Matthew's memoir was wide ranging, covering his career and personal life, and it also gave a raw, honest account of his struggle with addiction. In her introduction, Lisa chose to focus on Matthew's magnetic sense of humour. 

“So I just focused on Matthew, who could make me laugh so hard every day, and once a week, laugh so hard I cried and couldn’t breathe,” she wrote.

“He was there, Matthew Perry, who is whip smart… charming, sweet, sensitive, very reasonable.

"That guy, with everything he was battling, was still there.

“The same Matthew who, from the beginning, could lift us all up during a gruelling night shoot for the opening titles inside that fountain.”

Matthew Perry’s family breaks silence

On Monday Matthew’s heartbroken family released a statement to People, speaking of their loss and grief.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother,” they said.

“Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend.

“You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.”

At 4pm on Saturday emergency services responded to reports of a person in cardiac arrest at Perry’s LA area home.

TMZ reported that Matthew was found dead in a jacuzzi.

According to TMZ, no illegal drugs were found at his home, however there were antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications and tablets to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
