In a move set to thrill chicken enthusiasts, McDonald’s is adding its fan-favourite Chicken McWings to the permanent menu from Wednesday, June 11.
Following a successful trial that sparked buzz on social media earlier this year, Chicken McWings will be available in three-piece or five-piece servings, either on their own or as part of a meal, at restaurants nationwide.
The juicy wings are made from 100 per cent Aussie, RSPCA Approved chicken, wrapped in a golden, crispy coating.
Also joining the line-up are two permanent dipping sauces to accompany the McWings: a new Ranch Sauce and a returning Spicy Buffalo Sauce.
Amanda Nakad, Marketing Director of Menu and Brand for McDonald’s Australia, said, “It’s been a while since we have added something new to the permanent menu, but the response to Chicken McWings during the trial made it clear: Aussies want more chicken options with their order”.
She added: “Chicken McWings are now claiming their spot next to other legends like the McChicken, McSpicy, McCrispy and Chicken McNuggets. It’s the golden era of chicken at Macca’s – and we’re just getting started.”
A McDonald’s spokesperson explained that prices are set at a restaurant level, and people are advised to check their nearest Macca’s for more information.
Aussie foodie influencer, Nectorious Papi, raved about the new addition.
“There’s a lot of wings on the market, but Chicken McWings have totally won me over, and they’re even better with Ranch Sauce and Spicy Buffalo Sauce,” he said.
“I love that Macca’s is a one-stop shop now – you can grab all your faves in one order. My go-to combo is Chicken McWings with Ranch Sauce and a McFlurry to finish – it’s seriously so good.”
This move comes after Macca’s confirmed to news.com.au in December that it was trialling the crispy snacks in select New South Wales restaurants.
Then in March, it confirmed the McWings trial had been extended.
“Macca’s is always looking for new ways to tantalise those tastebuds,” a spokesman said at the time.
“We are trialling juicy, tender Chicken McWings in select restaurants across New South Wales and South Australia only.”
Foodies caught wind of the trial, taking to social media to let their followers in on the “hidden” menu item.
Popular food content creator Adrian Widjy made the discovery at the West Ryde location in Sydney.
“Run for this hidden menu item at West Ryde Macca’s,” he said.
“They now serve fried, battered chicken wings. It is thick, juicy, super savoury and has a peppery kick.”
Russ Eats also reviewed the McWings at the end of last year, saying they tasted “hot and fresh”.
Social media users were over the moon, with some drawing comparisons to a popular Macca’s item in Indonesia.
“OMG I gotta try this,” one said.
Another social media user wrote: “Just like ayam goreng in Indonesian Maccas. Now we need rice”.
