‘Need to try it’: Fans rave about ‘hidden’ Macca’s menu item

A “hidden” menu item on offer at the fast food giant has caught the attention of social media, with fans telling others to “run” for a taste.

A “hidden” menu item on offer at McDonald’s has caught the attention of social media, with some saying they “need to try it”.

Macca’s fans have spotted the fast food chain selling crispy McWings. Popular food content creator Adrian Widjy made the discovery at the West Ryde location.

“Run for this hidden menu item at West Ryde Macca’s,” he said.

“They now serve fried, battered chicken wings. It is thick, juicy, super savory and has a peppery kick.

“They have options for three or five pieces started from $6.95.”

Russ Eats reviewed the McWings at the end of last year.

“Hot and fresh, it’s not that bad. It’s kind of like a servo wing,” he said.

Social media users were over the moon, with some drawing comparisons to a popular Macca’s item in Indonesia while others compared it to KFC.

“They look like the old Costco wings,” one social media user said.

Another added: “Use to have fried chicken pieces and chips late 70s and beginning of the 80s then just disappeared.”

“Wicked wings has always been my fave but I WILL TRY THIS,” one social media user declared.

“OMG I gotta try this,” one said.

Another social media user wrote: “Just like ayam goreng in Indonesian maccas. Now we need rice.”

“OMG need to try when I get back,” one commented.

Another said: “They are my HK favs, finally made it to Aus.”

Others pointed out the item was also available at Green Square, Rockdale and Gladesville locations. One social media user said the fast food chain “had them ages ago.”

And they weren’t wrong with that claim. Macca’s confirmed to news.com.au in December that it was trialling Chicken McWings in select New South Wales restaurants.

However, now the McWings trial has extended.

“Macca’s is always looking for new ways to tantalise those tastebuds,” a spokesperson told news.com.au on Monday.

“We are trialling juicy, tender Chicken McWings in select restaurants across New South Wales and South Australia only.

“McWings are made with 100 per cent Aussie, RSPCA Approved chicken and coated in a crispy, light batter.

“While we can’t confirm any further deets, stay tuned for more later this year.”
