Macca’s selling hamburgers for 20c today at reopened restaurant

The first McDonald’s restaurant in Australia has just reopened its doors for the first time in 27 years – and there’s a tasty deal to celebrate.

The world's most bizarre Maccas menu items

A Macca’s restaurant is reopening its doors today, exactly 50 years after it first opened – and to celebrate, the fast food restaurant is offering customers its original prices.

The Yagoona restaurant, in Sydney NSW is the spot where the first ever Australian McDonald’s opened its doors in 1971.

However the chain moved out of plot 23 years later and it became home to an insurance company.

But back in July, construction work began, with signage suggesting Macca’s was moving back in.

The rumours were true, with the new Yagoona restaurant opening its doors today after more than six months of renovations.

To celebrate Macca’s is offering customers its menu items at 1970s prices – reducing the infamous hamburger to its original 20 cents price between 11am – 1pm on December 17.

McDonald’s Australia’s chief executive officer Andrew Gregory said the reopening was part of the restaurant’s 50th anniversary celebrations that have been ongoing throughout the year.

“We are incredibly proud to reopen McDonald’s Yagoona and recognise its important part of our history,” he said.

“Everything our customers know and love about McDonald’s Australia started at Yagoona, from Happy Meals and birthday parties to first jobs and community contribution.

“The reopening celebrates 50 years of supporting our customers, people and communities in Australia.

“We look forward to once again serving the local community and welcoming back customers from the 70s, 80s and 90s.”

The new restaurant “reflects the style” of the original Yagoona restaurant and features unique décor as well as a historic timeline of images showing the restaurant back in the 70s and a Happy Meal toy display with iconic toys from across the years.

As well as a 20c hamburger, McDonald’s Yagoona will also sell $1 cheeseburgers and cups of coffee for $2 during the promotional period today.

The new restaurant will operate 24-hours and feature a McCafé, dual lane drive-through as well as a dedicated delivery partner room and PlayPlace for the kids.

More than 120 jobs have been created as part of the big reopening across crew, management, barista and maintenance roles.
