Ex-Macca’s worker reveals item you can get for free

Got a particular craving for a certain iconic McDonald’s food? This former employee says there’s an easy way to get it free of charge.

A former Sydney Macca’s worker has lifted the lid on three little-known facts about the fast food chain – including the one food item you can get for free.

Food blogger @halalfoodsydney has more than 98,000 followers on TikTok where she shares “honest food reviews”.

In a video posted earlier this month, she said as a teenager she worked at McDonald’s.

She claimed that customers could request pickles if they had a craving for them and Macca’s staff would provide them at no cost.

“Pickles are free, so you can actually go and ask for like a whole tub of it,” @halalfoodsydney said.

“We used to get pregnant women coming in for them all the time.”

Here at news.com.au we take any pickle-related news incredibly seriously, so we contacted McDonald’s for comment.

A Macca’s spokeswoman said that “customers can add a limited number of extra pickles to a burger, wrap or salad at no extra cost”.

@halalfoodsydney also shared two facts most people “definitely” didn’t know about Macca’s, but with the disclaimer that she had “never done any” of them in question.

“Sometimes when we used to say the ice cream machine was broken it actually wasn’t, but someone accidentally put shake mix into the ice cream mix,” @halalfoodsydney claimed.

She also said that you maybe won’t get the milk you requested in your drink if employees ran out.

“If we we’re out of skim milk and we needed to go get another bottle I have seen someone do this, they use full cream milk,” @halalfoodsydney said.

The video has since been viewed more than 500,000 times, with Macca’s fans excited about her pickles claim.

“You really shouldn’t have told me about the free pickles, because I’m on my way now,” one person wrote.

“Oh my god now I gotta go get Macca’s,” another said.

“Wait, hang on! I can ask for a cup of pickles! Why the hell is this not on the menu?” one person commented.

But others disputed the claim, saying it wasn’t free at their local Macca’s which charged anything from 50 cents to $2 for a cup of pickles.

“Pickles might be free where you live but definitely not in Sweden or Europe,” one said.

Others said their local Macca’s was far from generous when it came to pickles.

“So when I ask (for) extra pickles they’re still stingy and put two,” another commented.
