A warmer wedding season is finally within grasp again, and those eager to be wed as a summer bride can at last begin to nail down their plans for their big day. There's plenty to be said for a summer wedding—the relaxed yet elegant energy of summery festivities, the multitude of outdoor locations available and uninhibited by the weather, and of course, the allure of summer bridal fashion and style.

Opportunely for all those summer brides, spring/summer fashion month precedes the wedding season in just enough time to inform and influence a number of style choices for the wedding—chief among them, all the trending summer hair styles worthy to be worn by a bride. From the creative to the timeless, the innovative to the unassuming, there's a hair trend for every kind of bride to be gleaned from the catwalk.

Satin ribbons

After the corset ribbon hair braid went viral after Christian Siriano's New York Fashion week show—which a Tresemmé hair expert crafted for the runway—it was easily surmised that this hair trend would become an instant bridal favourite for the incoming wedding season. 

A mixed pastiche of both Renaissance dressing and cottage-core, as well as the positively booming trend of placing ribbons on everything, this gorgeous ribbon-woven hairdo is a culmination of both these popular aesthetics in a fresh way. 

If a braid is not your style yet you still wish to incorporate a soft, satin ribbon in there somewhere, consider another ribbon-led look we spotted on Siriano's runway—singular strips of stain clipped onto the under layers of hair to give the subtle yet striking appearance of ribbons integrated into free flowing hair. 

Clips and headbands

At Versace, dainty hair accessories were replete, almost all of which had a decidedly bridal feel. For an extension of the ribbon hair trend in a more trim and sleek fashion, these solid hair accessories—ribbon clips and ribbon headbands made of metallic leather and encrusted with jewels—veer more towards a retro '50s vintage ballet-core look as opposed to the unabashed whimsy of a Renaissance-inspired hairdo.

Of course, this bridal hair trend is far from new—it was, after all, Zoë Kravitz who captured the hearts of brides everywhere when she donned a white ballet-esque ribbon headband back in 2020 for her own wedding. But as they say, what goes around comes back around, always, and ribbons in all their iterations will be a bride's bread and butter this season.

Braided buns

For those for whom ribbons do not appeal, you'll be pleased to hear there's more to this season's bridal hair trends than satin and clips. Accessories are certainly not the only way to bring something unique to one's wedding day beauty look, and much can be done with your hair alone. Take for example Kim Shui's show beauty looks, where braided and teased top buns were everywhere.

A perfect messy-chic, low-maintenance looking hairdo, this take on the classic top bun brings an air of interest to a fairly standard up-do choice and encapsulates the relaxed yet simultaneously glamorous energy of a summer wedding. Whether you opt for a full up-do or the much beloved half-up look, this casually fabulous, innovative look will serve you well both practically and stylistically on your special day.

Headdresses

Back in the land of accessories yet beyond simple headbands and bows, headdresses are proving to be one of the season's biggest bridal hair trends. Where once veils, tiaras and other assortments of headpieces where regaled to a bygone era, a contemporary injection into the design and style of these accessories, informed by more current vintage trends, have seen a rise in head coverings and attachments for brides.

At Simone Rocha, the whole show was a bride's dream, and the headdress brief was met with little restraint. Along with beaded floral decorations, Rocha showcased more than one bejewelled and ribboned head piece that acted as an oversized cap. Though a little much, and a little impractical for a wedding day maybe, the concept of beaded and bejewelled headpieces hold great promise for the summer wedding season, when other heavier headdresses might feel too cumbersome.

Similarly, at Collina Strada, hair was adorned with a plethora of accessories woven into braids, buns and ponytails. From doily-esque misshapen headbands to gossamer fabrics woven into plaits, Strada took whimsy and altered it for the contemporary bride's beauty look. Sheer material interwoven into the hair to create a low-maintenance veil was a standout, and a great way to "wear" a veil without actually doing so—a look we expect to see trending big-time throughout the wedding season ahead.

Unkempt and undone

For the ultimate low-maintenance beauty bride, channelling the unkept trend is an easy choice. While '70s blowouts and highly decorative looks have been modish all year long, at both Phillip Lim and Prabal Gurung's latest shows, a particular unkept, undone look took the spotlight. 

A hairdo that shows no sign of effort or curation, whilst expertly masking the intention behind this unintentional look, hair being out of place is precisely the point. Veering away from sharp middle parts and trimly tucked away hair, Gurung and Lim let lived-in hair loose, with strands of hair resting on foreheads and natural curls left alone. 

This look lends itself to the singularly relaxed and non-manicured energy of summer, and will appeal to the pocket of those who reject clean-girl summer, making it the perfectly imperfect beauty look for the unkept bride.

Slicked back

Slicked back looks were spotted across multiple runways this fashion month, signalling a return of wet-hair with a more contemporary approach. From Jason Wu's fluidly stylised wet side-fringe shapes to Coach's straightforward slicked back fresh-face look, it's clear that this sleek hair style is making headway for summer.

And for the modern bride looking for a beauty look slightly edgier, sexier and more minimalist than the traditional looks on offer, and in complete contrast to something unkept, this trend might serve them well. Surprisingly versatile, this look can be adopted in a multitude of hairdos, ranging from the avant-garde to the simple "clean-girl", for those who continue to highly regard it. A favourite of It-girls like Sofia Richie Grainge and Bella Hadid, the resurgence of the slicked back hair trend is sure to seep into the summer wedding season.
