The Australian designer behind a Hollywood celebrity’s jaw-dropping Oscars after-party look has revealed the painstaking level of detail that went into creating the plunging gown.

Nicky Hilton stunned in a bespoke Rebecca Vallance floor-length gown at Elton John AIDS Foundation’s Annual Academy Awards after-party last weekend.

But while fans lapped up the “breathtaking” outfit, which featured a jewel-encrusted mesh panel, Vallance has opened up about how long it took to make.

“The embellished tulle neckline detail featured hand-embellished claw crystals that ombre down the neckline and were all hand-applied to the centre panelling,” Vallance told news.com.au.

“The neck band and centre front mesh panel took over 48 hours to construct, while just the hand beading alone was a further 12 hours to construct and complete the whole dress.

“We wanted to create an unforgettable red-carpet moment, and this collaboration brought together Nicky’s eye for classic Hollywood style, which I combined with a structured yet feminine silhouette and intricate hand embellishments.”

Thankfully, not a single minute of sewing or stitching went to waste, with Hilton’s 1.6 million followers declaring the 41-year-old’s “one-of-a-kind” look “incredible”.

“That dress is phenomenal,” one said.

“WOW! Amazing, absolutely gorgeous,” shared another.

As another declared: “This outfit has so much sex appeal.”

Vallance agreed, stating “Nicky looked absolutely stunning” in the unique piece which the pair began working on months in advance.

“Creating that perfect balance is everything. We always start with our inspiration and with that looking at the ideal silhouette we’re looking to design,” she explained.

“From there, we work into the details whether this be a particular hemline, embellishments, or other specific design details. We always want women to feel their best wearing Rebecca Vallance, including in our custom looks.”

The Australian designer is more than just the mastermind behind Hilton’s latest red carpet moment, with the pair becoming loyal friends in recent years, and even collaborating on an entire collection together last year.

“Our friendship is really special, and the Hilton family are always so supportive of me and the brand,” she said.

“Launching the Nicky Hilton for Rebecca Vallance collection last year was such an incredible experience, and it was wonderful seeing the customers react to the collection the way they did.”

Now three months into 2025, it’s full steam ahead for Vallance and her namesake fashion label, with the brand taking an exciting new direction with its latest release.

“Not only have we been focused on red carpet moments over the past weeks, but we have also just launched our new DENIM collection, which is a whole new category for Rebecca Vallance,” she told news.com.au.

“We’ve launched with 15 designs, including sculptural high-waist straight-leg jeans, tailored flares, cinched-waist, fitted dresses, a striking strapless top with cinched-waist detail, timeless oversize aviator jackets with cocoon-sleeve tailoring and an iconic modern tailored blazer.”

Hilton fans were also “obsessed” with another detail in her Oscars look after spotting the socialite was carrying a bedazzled Peroni bottle clutch-bag.
