Nadia Bartel’s ‘revealing’ outfit reignites wedding etiquette debate

The Melbourne influencer has broken an unwritten rule of wedding guest etiquette, causing some to lash her see-through outfit choice.

Nothing riles up social media more than those who violate the unwritten rules of attending a wedding, particularly when it comes to outfit choices.

Etiquette experts have long argued there are certain things you should never wear to someone else’s big day, including the colour white or anything deemed too revealing.

These outfits need to be avoided at all costs as it is believed to be a deliberate act of “upstaging the bride”.

But it seems the rule may have escaped Nadia Bartel, after she was photographed wearing a black see-through dress at her friend Effie Kat’s recent Melbourne wedding.

The fashion entrepreneur rocked the sheer number to the nuptials of the popular fashion designer who married finance broker James Cerolini on Saturday.

Bartel’s dress, which she showed off in all its glory on Instagram, featured a black boob tube top and matching miniskirt that was overlayed with a see-through fabric.

While she explained there was an “all black dress code”, fans were quick to comment on the racy nature of her ensemble, as well as other guests pictured alongside her.

On a photo taken beside stylist Suzy Eskander, who opted for a dress with a large cut out that flaunted her abs, and model Millie Arnold – whose G-string could be seen underneath a her sheer outfit – some expressed their strong views on the controversial wedding attire.

“Sorry but not sorry. For a wedding this style of clothing is not appropriate,” one fan commented.

“Definitely too revealing,” another remarked on a group shot taken at the wedding.

However, the bride appeared unfazed by the outfit choices of her guests, wearing her own showstopping gown that flashed the flesh.

The white lace dress by Zuhair Murad featured a large tulle train during the vow ceremony at St Patrick’s Cathedral.

But at the reception at State Library Victoria, it was removed to reveal the gown in all its glory, with sheer panels that showed off the bride’s figure underneath.

The new Mrs Kats Cerolini shared a photo in her “naked” wedding dress alongside her new husband from the celebrations, prompting many of her 116,000 followers to shower the bridal look with praise.

“Absolutely out of this world, you are a VISION,” one wrote.

“The most spectacular bride and groom I ever did see!” another stated.

As one declared: “Wow you look incredible.”

The fashion designer’s famous friends also flooded her comments section, giving an insight into the wedding shenanigans, and thanking the couple for “such an incredible day”.

“What a day!!! It was so incredible in every way! And look at both of you here,” Bartel wrote.

“Absolutely stunning. The most incredible day with the best couple,” celebrity stylist Lana Wilkinson agreed.

“So much fun with you all celebrating our stunning bride,” Channel 9 presenter Jessica Roberts chipped in.

“It [the wedding] exceeded every expectation I had,’’ Mrs Kats Cerolini told the Herald Sun.

“Every part of it just blew my mind. It was great. I had a wedding planner, Valentina, I could not have done it without her.

“There were small hiccups along the way, but it was the perfect day.”

Bartel is not the first wedding guest to make a faux pas with their outfit, with many wedding guest dresses going viral in recent months.

Sadly, a long line of women have copped criticism online for their choices at a friend’s big day, including Melbourne woman Olivia Burrows Sutherland, who was chastised for wearing a crop top with a tiered maxi skirt to a friend’s wedding in March.
