A regional Queensland yoga studio has teamed up with a street cat charity to offering cat lovers a special yoga session where you can stretch out as kittens play or sleep around you.
Toowoomba Bloom Holistic Collective yoga teacher Donnamarie Vanderhorst is running a number of cat yoga sessions this kitten season to raise funds for some of the 70 cats and kittens Toowoomba Street Cat Alliance in care.
Street Cat Alliance is a group of dedicated volunteers who have rescued almost 300 cats since they were started by Tracey Tyers in 2021.
This year the volunteers have rescued 9 new litters since the start of kitten season (mid-October), with Ms Vanderhorst being one of the first people to find her cat match.
Looking for a way to help raise funds, awareness and even find some homes for the fluffy litters of kittens, they decided to team up together and run “cat yoga” sessions.
“When I heard Toowoomba was having some cat yoga sessions I was very excited,” yoga participant Carlie Smith said.
“Cats give you an unconditional love, building one of the most beautiful bonds of friendship you can have in your life,” she said.
The next cat yoga sessions will be held on Sunday, December 8 from 12pm.
Already the stretchy sleepy playful kitten sessions have raised more than $3000 for desex, microchip, health check, first vaccine, caring and rehoming the cats.
