Andrew Civil is about to run his 500th parkrun

After 11 years this Toowoomba construction manager has never missed a parkrun, and now he’s about to complete his 500th run, the first in the region to reach the milestone.

A Toowoomba construction manager will be the first person in the region to break a new running milestone this Saturday as he primes himself to complete his 500th parkrun.

Describing himself as a “creature of habit”, construction manager Andrew Civil found his habit every Saturday by hitting the footpath along with hundreds of other people running 5km in parkrun.

This Saturday morning he will proudly complete his 500th park run in Queens Park since joining when it was started in 2013 by Margaret Maloney and Tressa Lindenberg.

Apart from the brief break during the pandemic cancellations Mr Civil said he has never missed a chance to run through a park.

One of his greatest moments was joining the original Bushy Park parkrun in London, but he’s also taken to the parkruns in Berlin, and more locally in Australia, Melbourne, Canberra, and often frequenting the Mooloolaba parkrun on holidays.

He confessed when he travels he often intentionally finds accommodation close to the nearest parkrun.

While he has never aimed for anything more than the 5km jog every week – he’s reaching incredible milestones with 500 runs, that’s 2500km of running in total.
