Influencer and radio host Abbie Chatfield has broken down in tears after revealing she had to put down her beloved rescue dog Marco.

Abbie Chatfield has shared the heartbreaking news that she was forced to put down her rescue dog, Marco.

In an Instagram post over the weekend, the 26-year-old former Bachelor star revealedshe and boyfriend Konrad Bień-Stephen, had to put their dog to sleep on Friday.

Marco was diagnosed with cancer in May, but recently contracted a “very bad infection” resulting in sepis.

“Hello friends and fans of Marco. We have had to make the very difficult decision to put Marco down. I’m just on my way home to Sydney to give him one more kiss,” Abbie wrote in an emotional post.

“He has had a very bad infection resulting in sepsis close to shock. We are absolutely devastated but so happy we got to have such a beautiful Prince in our lives. We love him more than anything.”

She then signed off by asking followers to “please have roast chicken for Marco” – one of his favourite meals.

Abbie, who hosts Hit Network show Hot Nights with Abbie Chatfield, later explained Marco “fell asleep”.

“It was very peaceful, we went to Sash in North Ryde and they were lovely. Thank you for all your messages, it’s a bit sad tonight.”

The beloved cocker spaniel had 18,500 followers of his own on Instagram which was run by Abbie and filled with adorable snaps of Marco.

In March, Abbie revealed she rescued the 11-year-old dog, who she nicknamed “The Prince”.

She said on Monday she was considering adopting another dog, but was worried if she got one she will “miss Marco more”.

“I’m very sad. Like I’m very sad. I just want him back,” Abbie said, breaking down in tears.

“He was just so perfect, like for me, and I just miss him so much,” she added.

Abbie said she “really misses him” and that Marco helped with her anxiety more than she realised.

“Like, I’m very sad, I just want him back. He was perfect for me and I just miss him so much,” Abbie said in an Instagram Story on Monday,

In May, the 26-year-old revealed her own personal health battle on her radio show, saying she has “finally” been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Abbie explained of her own symptoms that she’s “unable to sleep a lot” because of her constant flow of thoughts, and often forgets where things are, as well as going through periods of “hyperactivity”.

ADHD is a mental health condition that can involve problems with attention, focus and concentration; hyperactivity, impulsive behaviour, irritability and restlessness.
