Abbie Chatfield took to Instagram to reveal her rescue dog’s heartbreaking diagnosis – but thankfully it’s not all gloom.

Abbie Chatfield broke down in tears after revealing her rescue dog Marco had been diagnosed with cancer.

She shared the news with her 397,000 Instagram followers earlier this week.

However, in a positive turn of events, the influencer and former The Bachelor star, 26, updated fans to reveal some positive news following the initial diagnosis.

“While I definitely do have naughty cancer, it hasn’t spread as much as we initially thought,” she captioned a post on Marco’s Instagram page on Tuesday, speaking as the dog.

“My beautiful vet prepared me for the fact that maybe my nose and penis had cancer, but IT IS NOT!

“And that it had spread everywhere but it isn’t as bad as we thought!! I am very happy and you will get updates in a few days. Love all my fans. I will continue to be a social media sensation.”

She then updated fans with some positive news – that it hasn’t spread as much as it was initially thought. Picture: Instagram/abbiechatfield

It comes after Abbie, who was the winner of I’m a Celebrity Australia for 2021, posted a series of videos to her Instagram Stories on Monday in tears as she asked followers for advice on how long the cocker spaniel was likely to live after revealing he had cancer – and speculating that he had just months left.

Abbie then shared another clip of herself in the shower, revealing she had been sitting on the floor and weeping.

“I don’t want this to discourage anyone from adopting a senior dog,” she said.

“I am so glad I got him out of the shelter.”

In March, Abbie revealed she rescued the 11-year-old dog, who she nicknamed ‘The Prince’.

“Everyone meet our new baby angel MARCO!!!!!!! Marco was a rescue pup that has had a hard life so now he will live a life of LUXURY,” she wrote at the time.

“He’s 11 years old, so was turned down a lot when people would meet him at the shelter because he was ‘too old’ (rude, he’s in his prime) but when I met him I had to take him home.”

Abbie described Marco as “an endless ball of kisses and cuddles”.

Last week, the 26-year-old revealed her own personal health battle on her Hot Nights with Abbie radio show.

She said she’s “finally” been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Abbie explained of her own symptoms that she’s “unable to sleep a lot” because of her constant flow of thoughts, and often forgets where things are, as well as going through periods of “hyperactivity”.

ADHD is a mental health condition that can involve problems with attention, focus and concentration; hyperactivity, impulsive behaviour, irritability and restlessness — but can be difficult to pinpoint because its symptoms are “common to a wide variety of disorders”, Queen’s University Associate Professor of Psychology, Allyson G Harrison, explained in a piece for The Conversation last March.
