A new two-tiered city rooftop restaurant, bar and entertainment venue – with an exclusive, high-end dining option curated by an acclaimed chef – will be “something that Adelaide hasn’t seen before”.
SORA – which translates to ‘sky’ in Japanese – will breathe life into level nine of 89 Pirie St with a multimillion-dollar fit-out and hospitality offering designed by Tarik Nasser-Eddine and Giuseppe Alvaro, in conjunction with executive chef Adam Liston who describes the project as his “most ambitious yet”.
Liston, known for city delicious.100 restaurant Shobosho and ShoSho in Hyde Park, has also teamed up with Nate Scutter to bring the vision to life.
“It’s a first for Adelaide,” Mr Liston said.
“It’s a place where, whoever you are, you can go and enjoy live entertainment, or sit and have a drink and a snack, or a complete dining experience, in a very high end environment.”
The rooftop will incorporate a 100-plus seat modern Asian restaurant – with a greater focus on Japanese – as well as a 12-14 seat premium dining option. A mezzanine level will feature a high-end bar and cigar lounge.
At the 12-14 seat table, diners will be able to enjoy a glass of champagne and snack on the likes of sashimi or caviar, or settle in for a set menu.
“That’s effectively like a chef’s table, which will have a very big focus on high-end sashimi-grade fish and fire and charcoal cooking,” Liston said.
“It will be the signature luxury offering … with high-end sashimi grade fish, premium-cooked meat, and using custom-designed equipment. I’m going for gold in terms of my capabilities in cooking.
“But it’s not just two restaurants on a rooftop. There is a specifically designed bar that people will be able to access, particularly on weekends, until late at night. Obviously all with big open views of the Adelaide CBD.”
Mr Scutter said the venue, which is owned by Pelligra Group, would be “high-end European” in style and atmosphere.
“The rooftop showcases architectural elegance at its finest and the sophisticated design and development identifies the high-quality achievements that Pelligra have brought into Adelaide,” he said.
“It’s something that Adelaide hasn’t seen before. It will be in a tier and class of its own … this will raise the bar.”
SORA is the second hospitality venue to open with Liston’s involvement in recent months – the latest being Mozza, an Italian-American diner, adjacent the Southwark Hotel in Thebarton.
SORA is slated to open by the end of June.
