Erin Holland’s reality is many women’s worst fear.
After several years of struggling with fertility issues, Holland has opened up about her ongoing IVF struggles and recent complications.
“It’s been a really challenging couple of months to be honest,” Holland told Confidential.
“I think this whole journey to motherhood has been so much more incredibly difficult and taxing than I had ever imagined it would be.
“It all came to a head last week in and around working the F1, which was crazy, trying to juggle hospital appointments and work commitments and things like that.”
Holland spoke to Confidential as she hosted a lunch for Welleco x Chemist Warehouse at Rose Bay Boatshed on Wednesday.
She has been undergoing IVF treatments for more than two years since being diagnosed with polycystic ovaries in 2023, which has proven to be both a physical and mental setback for the 35 year old.
“There have been a number of roadblocks now, which take time to recover and force breaks to take another round, which will be really challenging.
“I found through trying to prioritise rest as much as I can, getting a lot of fulfilment through friendships, loving the work that I do and taking things that are good for my body pushes me forward.”
Married to cricketer Ben Cutting, long distance has been a staple of the pair’s relationship for the last decade, with the past few weeks having been particularly tough for Holland.
“Getting news and having to make decisions when my husband’s on FaceTime in India is always a challenge,” she said.
“We’re both very supportive of each other’s careers and, unfortunately, these are things that sometimes happen in terms of work.
“It’s not feasible to always be around for every single potential moment or thing that can go wrong, it was really tough.”
Holland openly shared her journey on social media when she went through four rounds of egg harvesting in 2023 and has since used work as a “distraction”.
“When you’re struggling, your fertility can become the only thing that you think about.
“So any escapism is necessary and for me that’s work.
“I’m really lucky to love what I do and love my job, and obviously that’s been such a breath of fresh air to have something else to put my mind to. The show must go on.”
This week, that included celebrating the launch of Welleco’s newest innovation, The Hydroprotein Elixir, available exclusively at Chemist Warehouse.
