Erin Holland gives off that sort of effortlessly cool energy that makes you want to both be her best friend but also study her daily routine in hopes that you’ll pick up on the specific ‘it’ factor that makes her so magnetic.
Crowned Miss World Australia in 2013, Erin is now known as a TV host (Indian Premier League), actor (The Secret Daughter), reality star (SAS Australia), brand ambassador (Mx Skincare), model and social media star (670k+ followers on Instagram alone).
With all this screen time in mind, it’s fair to say Erin knows a thing or two about skincare and long-wear make-up. Plus she splits her time between Sydney and Brisbane (where her husband, Aussie cricketer Ben Cutting lives) so she certainly knows her way around travel essentials.
Rocking up to this interview, Erin had her huge blue beauty bag in tow – ready to divulge her beauty must-haves and ‘gross’ products she swears by.
WHAT’S IN ERIN HOLLAND’S BEAUTY BAG?
“When you travel all the time, you kind of need to make sure that you’ve got compact things,” Erin tells news.com.au checkout.
Make Up For Ever HD Skin All-In-One Palette, $145 at The Iconic
“So this little Makeup Forever Professional Palette is amazing. It’s highlighting, contouring, everything, all in one tiny little panel. I use it as a concealer as well. It’s very well loved. So you’ve got your contours over here, your concealers, then you’ve got some really beautiful highlighters as well that you give yourself some glow.”
YSL Black Opium Eau De Parfum, $282 at YSL
“My favourite scent, without a doubt, is YSL Black Opium. This is, you know, how you have a signature scent. This is definitely my signature scent. And I just spritz her all the time. She’s actually almost empty as well.”
Yves Saint Laurent Lipstick in Rouge Pur Couture, $70 at Adore Beauty
“A good lipstick, the perfect nude. This one is called a really sexy name ‘Rouge Pur Couture’. It’s just a beautiful nude. I’ve got quite pigmented lips, so I need something that’s a little bit more on the coloured side, rather than super, super, super nude; I can’t rock the Kardashian. It’s absolutely beautiful, wonderful. All rounder.”
Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Luminous Powder Blush in Joy, $48 at Sephora
“Selena Gomez, I know you’re an amazing singer, I know you can kind of act, but makeup is your calling. Never stop makeuping. These blushes are just incredible. The way that these can emulsify a cream into your foundation or are equally as successful as a powder blush, are just incredible. This one is very well loved.”
Beauty Blender Makeup Sponge, $34 at Sephora
“Everyone needs a beauty blender. And did, you know, write this down … you’re supposed to wet them?! And then they blow up to be three times the size. I’ve been using these dry for such a long time. And then I was at a Sephora event the other day, and the girls were like, “What are you doing? It’s dry!”
GHD Mini Paddle Brush, $35 at GHD
“My little GHD panel brush, because I don’t have space for a massive one, this is so good for just making sure that your hair is looking fab, but without taking up too much space in your beauty case.”
THE BEAUTY ESSENTIALS ERIN HOLLAND TRAVELS WITH
“I pretty much live on an aeroplane and whether I’m going overseas or just going to Brisbane to see the husband every weekend or domestically for work, I make sure that this never gets unpacked, so I never lose anything or go without,” Erin says.
“I think we should start with skincare, right? Because skincare is everything. If the skin isn’t good, the makeup is never going to look as good on top. So I’ve absolutely fallen in love with an Australian skincare brand called MX Skincare, and it’s all natural, no parabens, no palm oils, no SLS, nothing nasty, which we love, but it’s still cosmeceuticals, so it still really works. And considering I’m 35 these days, and I spend my life on camera, it’s really incredibly important to have stuff that works.”
Hydrating Masque+, $59 from Mx Skincare
“I never go anywhere without my hydration mask, because I fly so much this is clear. So you can literally put it on your face on an aeroplane no one knows, because it’s clear. So you can mask for hours, and you can actually reapply as you go as well. So you can keep yourself really nice and hydrated, and your skin will thank you for it the second that you get off that aeroplane, that this is an absolute Godsend, so that at least once a week, or at least once every long haul flight.”
Facial Oil+, $79 at Mx Skincare
“This serum is probably a hero of the entire MX range. This is their cosmeceutical facial oil, plus now I use this with my makeup skincare prep. This is literally like the ultimate glow in a tiny little bottle. It’s got rose extracts, it smells absolutely amazing, but the way it emulsifies into your skin is literally next level. So I put this on my face. I literally glaze doughnut myself before I go to sleep.”
Serum Vitamin A+, $99 at Mx Skincare
“Then I have my vitamin A. Everyone needs a vitamin A. It’s so active. It’s so good for resurfacing the skin. Is so good for just giving you that beautiful evenness, maybe getting rid of any little blemishes that you may have. This one is amazing, but super gentle, so you don’t even have to work up to using it. You can literally bang it on your face once a day. I use it pretty much seven days a week, it’s that gentle.”
GHD Unplugged Cordless Hair Straightener, $500 at GHD
“This is my little mini cordless GHD unplugged. Now this can literally touch up your hair wherever you are because it is battery powered. So I take this on shoots. I take this in the car. I take this when I travel, because it’s really little and it’s not so heavy. You just make sure that you can spruce up literally wherever you are in the world. So, yeah, little GHD unplugged, she’s an absolute superstar as well.”
WHAT’S ONE UNSEXY PRODUCT ERIN HOLLAND SWEARS BY?
“My unsexy beauty hack is a little bit unconventional …” Erin teases.
OmniLux LED Mask Men, $605 from OmniLux
“We all love an LED light, right? OmniLux. They’re absolutely amazing. But I actually got the men’s one because it is slightly larger, which means I feel like I get more surface area of the face, but still contouring. So everyone always laughs at me when I whack it on, because it literally says, OminLux Men. So that’s my little unsexy beauty hack is, these are amazing. I do my skincare straight after. I think an LED is really important to looking after your skin.”
THE SURPRISING FIND IN ERIN HOLLAND’S BEAUTY CUPBOARD
“One thing you might be surprised to find in my beauty cupboard – and don’t tell anybody – it’s actually a pimple extractor, you know, like the little silver ones with the hook on the end. I’m just I zero in on things. If I can see a blackhead, it’s gotta go. And the best way you can do it is probably one of those apparatuses,” Erin tells news.com.au checkout.
Whitehead Extractor, $12.99 at Amazon Australia
More Coverage
“I’m obsessed with Dr Pimple Popper. It’s my favourite thing to watch at night. I know that’s really weird, but there are people out there that love it, because there are hundreds of millions of views on those videos. But yes, I got myself a little Dr Pimple Popper extractor that is in my beauty cupboard. And I love it, whatever, I don’t care.”
