A charity that supports at-risk children and young people who have experienced domestic violence has raised more than $1000 through gold coin donations at the Triple M Mayoral Carols by Candlelight event at Queens Park.
Fifteen children from Kiyua Performing Arts donned Kiyua shirts and performed flash mob dances around the park on Sunday.
Along with collecting donations from families enjoying the Mayoral Carols by Candlelight event, the charity got a chance to promote their life changing work which currently has 200 children in the program.
Offering classes in drama, dance, martial arts and art, the volunteer-run charity has been running for 21 years, helping at-risk youth discover new life skills through community, skills and talent generation.
“With 12,000 people attending the event, we were very happy to have our name out there in front of such a large crowd,” founder Sheriden Rehn said.
“We were invited by mayor Geoff McDonald to perform at the event this year and raise money through the gold-coin donations.”
The organisation is based in Cambooya and Toowoomba and will resume classes from January 31, 2026, giving their volunteer teachers a much needed break over the summer.
