A popular Darling Downs winter event is set to go ahead despite the looming threat of ongoing lockdowns across Queensland.

Stanthorpe and the surrounding Darling Downs was not included in Tuesday’s announcement of a snap three-day lockdown, and organisers of Snowflakes in Stanthorpe have assured people who are able to attend they’re all system go to hold their event as planned.

While families in areas impacted by the lockdown will be unable to attend, Snowflakes in Stanthorpe media and sponsorship co-ordinator Robyn Henderson said they envisage only a slightly altered program.

“We will have plenty of snow, a huge ice-skating rink, and there will be plenty of igloos and snow volcanoes to be made,” he said.

“We are looking forward to hosting this fabulous family-oriented event and give you a taste of Southern Downs hospitality in our winter wonderland.”

Ms Henderson said the event had a Covid safe plan approved by Queensland Health, which were happy with the systems that would be putting in place.

“We will be relying on our visitors to remain physically distant from people who are not in your household or social groups, and to wear masks if directed by Queensland Health,” she said.

“Please keep up to date with the Queensland Health directives to work out what directives apply to you and your situation.”

From 6pm Tuesday until 6pm Friday night, southeast Queensland, Townsville, Palm Island and Magnetic Island will go into a three-day lockdown.

The 11 southeast Queensland council areas to be locked down are Noosa, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Moreton, Scenic Rim, Somerset and Lockyer Valley.

The event runs from July 2-4.
