For vinyl aficionados and music fans alike, there’s no bigger day on the calendar than Record Store Day, and in Toowoomba today it’s going to be a big one.
Rock Star Vinyl is the official home of Record Store Day revelry, and owner Travis Howell said there would be something for everyone.
“Primarily we’ve got a selection of the limited edition releases from the USA made especially for Record Store Day, and they’re becoming the most sought after records in the market because they’re all limited edition and grow in value,” he said.
“They’re from a wide range of artists, and the American organisers put out a list of all the releases they’ve collaborated with, and most of the time there’s about 1500 to 7500 of these records worldwide, and we will have some on sale.”
Also on the bill is live music from DJ Murf and Special Guest, featuring an all-star line-up of some of Toowoomba’s favourite musicians.
“I’ve been doing this since 2013, and I’ve watched the resurgence of vinyl get bigger and bigger,” Mr Howell said.
“The main reason I think is that records are a tangible product, you can sit and hold them, read the cover work, and it’s just a fact that the sound is a lot better on the records. The sound is a lot warmer.
“Also I think it’s just a nostalgic thing too, to have a record players and records.
“Even back in the day you put a record on and play it start to finish. These days people listen to one song on an album, you don’t get to appreciate the whole album.”
Rock Star Vinyl is at Phat Burgers, 513 Ruthven Street with Record Store Day festivities taking place from 9.30am to 2.30pm. For more details, visit the Phat Burgers or Rock Star Vinyl Facebook pages.
