Heavy rain and severe storms forecast for this afternoon across the Darling Downs region are threatening to disrupt tonight’s New Year’s Eve celebrations and outdoor fireworks.
The Toowoomba Regional Council has said its 8pm fireworks show was still “going ahead as planned” at this stage unless there was storm or fog activity in the evening.
The annual fireworks show, a staple of NYE celebrations in the Garden City, was scrapped by the council last year out of respect to communities devastated by bushfires.
The City Golf Club is also hosting a fireworks show.
Hundreds are expected to ring in the New Year in true country style at the historic Jondaryan Woolshed for its annual Bush Dance.
The event will feature performances from the iconic Darling Downs Ridgy Didge Bush Band from 6pm.
The Toowoomba Sports Club will be welcoming the new year with country singer Peter Campbell.
You can also catch performances from The Fibonacci Band who will be performing live music at the Bone Idols NYE party, and relive ABBA’s greatest hits with tribute band Abbalanche at the EVAN Theatre.
Discovery Coaches is once again running its annual Secret Day Out, with passengers counting down the new year by heading to an unknown destination.
